YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 1st WEEK of ADVENT - SUNDAY 27th November 2022 Gospel of Sunday, November 27, 2022 Mt 24, 37-44Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew Jesus said to his disciples: “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.In (those) days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be (also) at the coming of the Son of Man.Two men will be out in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left. Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into.So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. C: The Gospel of the LordA: Prise to you, Lord Jesus Christ Our challenge for the week: We are careful for what? YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 1st WEEK of ADVENT - 28th November Monday Psalm 121 I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” And now our feet are standing within your gates, Jerusalem. Jerusalem, built as a city, walled round about. There the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, As it was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord. There are the thrones of justice, the thrones of the house of David. For the peace of Jerusalem pray: “May those who love you prosper! May peace be within your ramparts, prosperity within your towers.” For the sake of my brothers and friends I say, “Peace be with you.” For the sake of the house of the Lord, our God, I pray for your good. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 1st WEEK of ADVENT - 30th November Wednesday Psalm 19 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 1st WEEK of ADVENT - 1st December Thursday ENCYCLICAL LETTER – FRATELLI TUTTI of THE HOLY FATHERFRANCIS - ON FRATERNITY AND SOCIAL FRIENDSHIP (1) 1. “FRATELLI TUTTI”. With these words, Saint Francis of Assisi addressed his brothers and sisters and proposed to them a way of life marked by the flavour of the Gospel. Of the counsels Francis offered, I would like to select the one in which he calls for a love that transcends the barriers of geography and distance, and declares blessed all those who love their brother “as much when he is far away from him as when he is with him”. In his simple and direct way, Saint Francis expressed the essence of a fraternal openness that allows us to acknowledge, appreciate and love each person, regardless of physical proximity, regardless of where he or she was born or lives. Gospel of Sunday, November 27, 2022 Mt 24, 37-44Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew Jesus said to his disciples: “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.In (those) days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 1st WEEK of ADVENT - 3rd December Saturday ENCYCLICAL LETTER – FRATELLI TUTTI of THE HOLY FATHERFRANCIS - ON FRATERNITY AND SOCIAL FRIENDSHIP (part: 10-12; 31; 54-55) Shattered dreams For decades, it seemed that the world had learned a lesson from its many wars and disasters, and was slowly moving towards various forms of integration. For example, there was the dream of a united Europe, capable of acknowledging its shared roots and rejoicing in its rich diversity. (…) Our own days, however, seem to be showing signs of a certain regression. Ancient conflicts thought long buried are breaking out anew, while instances of a myopic, extremist, resentful and aggressive nationalism are on the rise. In some countries, a concept of popular and national unity influenced by various ideologies is creating new forms of selfishness and a loss of the social sense under the guise of defending national interests. Once more we are being reminded that “each new generation must take up the struggles and attainments of past generations, while setting its sights even higher. (…) “Opening up to the world” is an expression that has been co-opted by the economic and financial sector and is now used exclusively of openness to foreign interests or to the freedom of economic powers to invest without obstacles or complications in all countries. Local conflicts and disregard for the common good are exploited by the global economy in order to impose a single cultural model. This culture unifies the world, but divides persons and nations, for “as society becomes ever more globalized, it makes us neighbours, but does not make us brothers”. (…) In this world that races ahead, yet lacks a shared roadmap, we increasingly sense that “the gap between concern for one’s personal well-being and the prosperity of the larger human family seems to be stretching to the point of complete division between individuals and human community… It is one thing to feel forced to live together, but something entirely different to value the richness and beauty of those seeds of common life that need to be sought out and cultivated” (…) How wonderful would it be, even as we discover faraway planets, to rediscover the needs of the brothers and sisters who orbit around us. Hope Despite these dark clouds, which may not be ignored, I would like in the following pages to take up and discuss many new paths of hope. For God continues to sow abundant seeds of goodness in our human family. (…) I invite everyone to renewed hope, (…) Hope is bold; it can look beyond personal convenience, the petty securities and compensations which limit our horizon, and it can open us up to grand ideals that make life more beautiful and worthwhile”. Let us continue, then, to advance along the paths of hope. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 1st WEEK of ADVENT - 2nd December Friday Psalm 130 Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 2st WEEK of ADVENT - SUNDAY 4th December 2022 Gospel of Sunday 04 december 2022Mt 3, 1-12Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: "A voice of one crying out in the desert, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.'" John wore clothing made of camel's hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees 7 coming to his baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones. Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I. I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand. He will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 2st WEEK of ADVENT - 6th December 2022 Psalm 119 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart they do no wrong but follow his ways You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 3st WEEK of ADVENT - 14th December 2022 Prayer (Prayer with the Migrant and Refugee, written on the occasion of World Migrant and Refugee Day 2018) God of Peace, hear our prayer. Give us the gift of peace within us and among us. We ask you as a people on a journey, pilgrims on the roads of history still too marked by violence, acts and injustice. You who envision for us and with us a world at peace, guide our steps along paths of fraternity. You the welcoming God, teach us to welcome one another in our diversity with the wisdom of the heart, attentive to the paths of each one, to be hospitable and capable of sharing. You the God who protects the poor who ask for help, teach us to protect those whose rights are not recognised and whose dignity is crushed. You the God who promotes the existence of every living being, teach us to promote every person in their desire for happiness. You the God who is always willing to reintegrate us into His plan of love, teach us to be instruments of integration of every child, woman and man in the complex web of relationships of our societies. God of Peace, hear our prayer today: show us the way to that peace which we all desire and seek, the peace that is born in the heart that changes in the encounter with the other accepted as a gift, the peace that is born in the heart of those who protect the weakest, the peace that is born in the heart when one promotes oneself as a person, the peace that grows when everyone can live integrated in our cities. Peace-loving God, hear us! Gospel of Sunday, December 11, 2022 Mt 11,2-11 Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew When John heard in prison of the works of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to him with this question, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?" Jesus said to them in reply, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me." As they were going off, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, "What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces. Then why did you go out? To see a prophet? 7 Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: 'Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way before you.' Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. C: The Gospel of the LordA: Prise to you, Lord Jesus Christ Our challenge for the week: We are careful for what? Cubs/Brownies – draw on paper the people you trust and write why next to the drawing Scouts/Guides – photograph all the initiatives to help the weakest, poorest and most marginalized in your city by sharing them in patrol and / or church and then mark where they are on the map of your city. It will be an opportunity to find out what they do and think about it Explorer Scouts/Rangers – walk around your city. There are places, even near your home, where the marginalized, the excluded from our society live. Have you ever stopped to talk to them? This week try to find how many and what places they frequent and try to meet one of them by finding out who he is, where he comes from and why he is there Adult Leaders – in your notebook, mark how many times you have preferred to turn your head in the face of situations of discomfort and marginalization and how many other times you have not .... try to reflect because you can have different behaviors and entrust yourself to reading a passage from the Gospel to strengthen your faith and charity

YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 2st WEEK of ADVENT - 8th December Thursday Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary GOSPEL OH HOLY MASS Lc 1, 26-38 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?" And the angel said to her in reply, "The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God." Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her C: The Gospel of the LordA: Prise to you, Lord Jesus Christ Gospel of Sunday 04 december 2022Mt 3, 1-12Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 2st WEEK of ADVENT - 10th December 2022 Mary Woman of the waiting (don Tonino Bello) … Waiting: experiencing the taste of living. They have even said that a person's holiness is commensurate with the depth of his expectations. Perhaps this is true. If so, we must conclude that Mary is the holiest of creatures precisely because her life appears to be cadenced by the joyful rhythms of those who wait for someone. (…) The waiting for him, for nine very long months. The wait for the legal fulfilments celebrated with lashings of poverty and gauds of kinship. The wait for the day, the only one she would postpone, when her son would leave home and never return. The wait for the hour: the only one for which she would not have been able to restrain her impatience and whose graceful load she would have placed on the table of men before time. The 'wait for the last gasp of the only-begotten nailed to the wood. The 'wait for the third day, lived in solitary vigil before the rock. To wait: infinitive of the verb to love. Indeed, in Mary's vocabulary, to love in the infinitive ( …). If we cannot wait any longer today, it is because we have run out of hope. Its springs have dried up. We suffer a profound crisis of desire. And, now fed up with the thousand surrogates that besiege us, we risk no longer expecting anything even from those otherworldly promises that are signed with the blood of the God of the covenant.(…) Holy Mary, Virgin of expectation, give us a vigilant soul. (…) We unfortunately feel more like children of the twilight than prophets of the advent. Sentinel of the morning, awaken in our hearts the passion of young heralds to bring to the world, which already feels old. Bring us, at last, harp and zither, so that with you the dawn may wake the dawn. He will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 2st WEEK of ADVENT - 9th December 2022 ENCYCLICAL LETTER - LAUDATO SI’ - of THE HOLY FATHER FRANCISON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME – 66 (part) 66. The creation accounts in the book of Genesis contain, in their own symbolic and narrative language, profound teachings about human existence and its historical reality. They suggest that human life is grounded in three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbour and with the earth itself. According to the Bible, these three vital relationships have been broken, both outwardly and within us. This rupture is sin. The harmony between the Creator, humanity and creation as a whole was disrupted by our presuming to take the place of God and refusing to acknowledge our creaturely limitations. (...) Gospel of Sunday 04 december 2022Mt 3, 1-12Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: "A voice of one crying out in the desert, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.'" John wore clothing made of camel's hair and had a leather belt around his waist. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 2st WEEK of ADVENT - 7th December 2022 Psalm 37 Trust in the Lord and do good;dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord;trust in him and he will do this:He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;do not fret—it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land. Gospel of Sunday, December 18, 2022 Mt 1, 18-24Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the holy Spirit. Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means "God is with us." When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 3st WEEK of ADVENT - 16th December 2022 Lady Olave Baden-Powell’s Last Message to Guides Dear Guides, Scouts, Cubs and Brownies and all their leaders and friends, I shall have left this world when you receive this message, which I leave to express my thanks for all the kindnesses and the affection shown to me, and to say how greatly I have rejoiced over the way in which you have carried out your share in the work of the Movement that my beloved husband invented, for the advancement of boys and girls of all countries years ago. I have firm belief in Almighty God and in the life in the world to come, when he and I will be reunited, and together we shall watch over you who have been enrolled as members of this world family, and go on caring for your progress and your well being. I trust that you will continue fully to use the system of work and play that our Movement provides, keeping up the fun and the friendships made at your meetings and in camps, abiding by the Promise and upholding the Laws that you undertook to live by when you joined up. In that way you will not only advance yourself in body, mind and spirit, but you will affect those around you, in doing what is honourable and right and wise, and in giving out kindness of thought and action, thus striving against all ills and helping to make the world a happier and a better place in which to live. I trust you will be successful in all your tasks, and may God be with you all in the coming years. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 4st WEEK of ADVENT - 20th December 2022 ENCYCLICAL LETTER - LAUDATO SI’ - of THE HOLY FATHER FRANCISON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME - (231) 231. Love, overflowing with small gestures of mutual care, is also civic and political, and it makes itself felt in every action that seeks to build a better world. Love for society and commitment to the common good are outstanding expressions of a charity which affects not only relationships between individuals but also “macro-relationships, social, economic and political ones”.That is why the Church set before the world the ideal of a “civilization of love”. Social love is the key to authentic development: “In order to make society more human, more worthy of the human person, love in social life – political, economic and cultural – must be given renewed value, becoming the constant and highest norm for all activity”. In this framework, along with the importance of little everyday gestures, social love moves us to devise larger strategies to halt environmental degradation and to encourage a “culture of care” which permeates all of society. When we feel that God is calling us to intervene with others in these social dynamics, we should realize that this too is part of our spirituality, which is an exercise of charity and, as such, matures and sanctifies us. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 4st WEEK of ADVENT - 19th December 2022 Psalm 24 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty, he is the King of glory. Which stories touched you the most when reading an article or a book or a blog or other that highlighted a salvation story lived by a person? It can also be someone you know directly. Write his name (not his surname) and post it on your social profile by associating an image or other. Adult Leaders – write in your notebook the names of the boys / girls that you followed as leader and that, for one reason for another, you were unable to help in their growth with an adjective and pray for them

YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 4st WEEK of ADVENT - 20th December 2022 S. Agostino – De Trinitate Lord my God, my only hope grant that weary I may not cease to seek Thee, but seek Thy face always with ardour. Give me the strength to seek, Thou who hast made Thyself known And gave me hope to meet Thee again and again. Before Thee lies my strength and my weakness: Preserve that one, heal this one. Before Thee lies my knowledge and my ignorance; Where Thou hast opened me, welcome me when I enter; where Thou hast closed me, open me when I knock. Let me remember Thee, that I may understand Thee, that I may love Thee. Amen! YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 4st WEEK of ADVENT - 21st December 2022 Psalm 85 I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants but let them not turn to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps. YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 3st WEEK of ADVENT - 15th December 2022 POPE FRANCIS MORNING MEDITATION IN THE CHAPEL OF THE DOMUS SANCTAE MARTHAE When silence is music (12.12.2013) Christmas is a feast in which much noise is made. While we live this period of expectation, it would be important instead to rediscover silence, as an ideal time to grasp the musicality of the language with which the Lord speaks to us. A language so similar to that of a father and mother: reassuring, full of love and tenderness. Pope Francis, taking his cue from the passage from the prophet Isaiah (41:13-20), confided that he had reflected "not so much on what the Lord says" but rather "on how the Lord says it: that is, not so much in the letter but in the music. How does the Lord speak to us? Perhaps it may seem strange to hear a great God say: 'I am the Lord your God, who holds you by the right hand, as the father the child. And I say to you: do not be afraid! I come to your aid'. It is just like the father who runs beside his child when he has a bad dream at night and says to him: 'Do not be afraid! I am there beside you'. In the same way Jesus speaks to us. He 'draws near' to us. "When we watch a father or mother approach their child we see that they become small, speak in a child's voice and make childish gestures. Those who see them from the outside may think they are ridiculous. But 'the love of father and mother needs to come closer', to 'lower itself to the world of the child'. And even if Dad and Mum spoke to them normally, the child would understand them; 'but they want to take the child's way of speaking. They approach. They make themselves children. And so is the Lord'. (...) we must listen to the word of the Lord, what he says to us; but we must also listen to 'how he says it'. And we must do as he says, that is, "do what he says, but do it as he says it: with love, with tenderness, with that 'condescension' towards our brothers and sisters". "I was always struck by the Lord's encounter with Elijah, when the Lord spoke to Elijah. He was on the mountain and when he saw him pass by "the Lord was not in the hail, the rain, the storm, the wind.... The Lord was in the gentle breeze" (cf. 1 Kings 19:11-13). "In the original a beautiful word is used that cannot be translated precisely: it was in a sonorous thread of silence. A sonorous thread of silence: this is how the Lord approaches, with that sonority of silence that is proper to love'. (...) "This is the music of the Lord's language. We, preparing for Christmas, must hear it. It will do us good, very good". Usually Christmas is "a feast of much noise. It will do us good to have some silence", to "hear these words of love, these words of closeness, these words of tenderness, and we must be silent in this time because we are vigilant in expectation". (from: L'Osservatore Romano, daily ed., Year CLIII, no. 286, Fri 13/12/2013) Gospel of Sunday, December 11, 2022 Mt 11,2-11 Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew When John heard in prison of the works of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to him with this question, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?" Jesus said to them in reply, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.

YEAR 2022 – ADVENT 4st WEEK of ADVENT - 23rd December 2022 Only God (Mother Teresa of Calcutta) Only God can give faith, but you can offer your testimony. Only God can give hope, but you can give confidence to your brothers. Only God can give love, but you can teach others to love. Only God can give peace, but you can create union. Only God can give strength, but you can sustain the discouraged. Only God is the way, but you can give others the taste for life. Only God can give light, but you can make it shine in the eyes of all. Only God can do the impossible, but you can do the possible.
