INTRODUCTION

This module aims at defining some of the topics regarding acquiring inclusion skills, socialisation and a sense of belonging to a group.These game-like activities promote the flow of communication between strangers, particularly on shy people who need to be stimulated. The satisfaction that can be generated by the activities can act as a basic ingredient of a working group, as well as developing cohesion and providing an open atmosphere.

In completing this Module of Introduction to dramatic expression you will be able to:

  • Improve body awareness
  • Translate music into movement
  • Get creative
  • Develop a theme for a performance
  • Create movements, sounds, images and words

1. ALL PARTICIPANTS MOVE AROUND THE ROOM

  • Walking, rolling on the floor etc.
2. YOU PRESENT A TERM
  • The meaning of the first terms should be known to everybody, for example, ball, wind or tree
  • The terms can be looked at, felt or discussed beforehand
TIP:3. THE PARTICIPANTS RESPOND WITH THE FIRST RESPONSE THEY THINK OF
  • All participants can also use their mother tongue
  • Each participant can express his or her own idea of the term
  • The response can also be a movement or a sound
  • Encourage the group to be spontaneous
  • There is no right or wrong

Unit 11.2. Finding a Theme

ONE BY ONE IN A CIRCLE:

  • Everybody comes together in a circle
  • Present a term. One by one, the participants respond to this term in their own way
FROM TERM TO PERFORMANCE:
  • Choose some terms or responses of the participants and write them down on postits or a flipchart
  • The participants come together in small groups and choose some of the notes
  • The groups use the notes to develop a short movement, a gesture, music or a dance
  • All small groups present their results to each other

  • Only guide the participants and don’t participate yourself (It is important that the group leader just observe in order to see the group's reaction to the dynamic and give possible tips or make small changes at that moment)
  • Each response or action can be used as an impulse for the theme
