L'alphabet phonétique permet d'écrire des sons, chaque mot peut donc s'écrire avec l'alphabet latin (A, B, C, D...) ou avec l'alphabet phonétique. Ainsi, même si on ne connaît pas un mot, en lisant l'alphabet phonétique on peut quand même le prononcer correctement.
