SDG's (Sustainable Development Goals) are goals that want to improve the circumstances of humans and the environment. The first SDG is about putting an end to poverty because about 689 million people (worldwide) live in extreme poverty. It wants to reduce at least half the amount of people of all ages and genders that live in poverty as well as ensure that underprivileged humans have access to resources, services and property by 2030.

One of the indicators is the proportion of population which earns less than $1.90 per day international and national. Another index for poverty is poor health, lack of education, inadequate living standard, lack of income, disempowerment, poor quality of work and threat from violence because poverty usually leads to these factors. Furthermore you can measure the proportion of total government spending on essential services.

WELCOME TO BRASILSDG 1 indicators

The following chart shows the share of population who lives in extreme poverty, that means people who earn less than $1.90 per day. It’s obvious that the highest amount of poverty can be found in Africa for example almost 80% of the people living Madagascar and the Democratic Republic of Congo earn less than $1.90. In South Asia about 15% of the population lives in similar circumstances. In comparison it’s striking that the extreme poverty rate in the United States and Europe is under 1%. For example France and Germany exhibit no extreme poverty rate (0%).

Worldwide More than 10% of the population struggles to fulfill basic needs like health, access to clean water, sanitation services and education because of missing wealth. It stands out that the poverty rate in rural areas (mostly in Africa) is more than three times higher than it is in urban areas (well-developed countries mostly in Europe).

Although Germany is one of the richest countries in the world and it ranks 21st, there are still 13,4 million residents who live in poverty (but in comparison to the low standards in undeveloped countries it's enough to live healthy and get educated, which shows that Germany is a winner when it comes to wealth). It stands out that most of them are elderly people who don't get enough pension to maintain their high standards.

If you want there to be no more poverty, you can also contribute if you get involved in associations that fight against poverty and regularly donate your clothes to charity. You can also donate money to organizations and support certain families in certain countries. You could also do a voluntary social year in a developing country after your school and help there in schools or social facilities.
