Day 1 Journey towards Finland
March 23rd
After two years of waiting and moving, the Portuguese finally arrived at Kittilä Airport from Vila Nova de Milfontes with Finnair's wings. After a long journey of about 18 hours, we arrived in Wellevi where we stayed for a week. During the time, we explored our new home.
Day 2 The first day together
March 24th
This was the first day we were all together. The day started with a workshop where we got to know each other and did an activity to teach and learn both Portuguese and Finnish. After lunch, we left to explore the center of Levi. We took the gondola lift up to Samiland to meet Ante Aikio, who told us the history of the Sámi people and he sang (yoik) at us. Lastly, we got to feed and pet the reindeers., returned to wellevi and in the evening, we tried to see the northern lights but couldn´t.
Day 3 Visit to Sodankylä
March 25th
After breakfast, we prepared for the bus trip towards Sodankylä. The first stop was the old church. We had time to visit the big snowman. Then, it was time to have lunch in REDU. While waiting for the last eaters, we tried out the mining simulators. We set out to explore the mining industry. The journey then continued to Luosto. Some of us tried skiing and enjoyed it a lot.
Day 4 Snow and art
March 26th
The bus took us first to the home and gallery of the painter Reijo Raekallio in Pöntsö and then to the Visitor Centre Kellokas in Ylläs. After lunch, we visited the Snowvillage. Then, we left for the last place of the day, the Särestöniemi Museum. Luck was on our side and that night we saw the northern lights.
Day 5 Finnish laskiainen
March 27th
In Finland, we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. We went to the sledding hill in Levi. We baked some shrove buns (laskiaispulla). We had really nice day outside.
Day 6 Snow carving and snowshoeing day
March 28th
In the morning, we were divided into groups and started designing our own snow sculpture. we had all day to do it. During the day, in groups, we also went snowshoeing.
Day 7 The last full day in Finland
March 29th
We started at nine in the morning at the REDU Kittilä Campus. We got to know the school and Kittilä.. After that, we had a workshop. For lunch, we had Portuguese food. After lunch, we went through our program in Portugal. Later, some of us went on a Husky safari. The rest of us took the time to explore the center of Kittilä. We started the evening with a Farewell dinner, we hung out and played board games. Then, we were given our attendance certificates
Day 8 Departure day
March 30th
Time flew! We got up early and prepared breakfast together. Then, we grabbed our bags and took a group photo as a memento of our Eramus+ experience, and then we headed for the bus directly to Kittilä airport. we said goodbye to each other. Everyone was happy and tired of the trip.
Day 1 The trip to Portugal begins
April 19th
The day started early in the morning. We flew from kittilä to Helsinki and after that from Helsinki to Lisbon. In Lisbon, we were welcomed by Portuguese students and teachers. We started our journey towards Vila Nova de Milfontes, we stopped at a gas station to eat and from there we continued to the Selina Hostel in Vila Nova de Milfontes. We arrived in Milfontes around 1 a.m., and the we went to sleep.
Day 2 Getting to know Vila Nova de Milfontes
April 20th
Today, we started the day with an activity that consisted of getting to know each other. We were divided into groups and local students introduced us to their school. Then, at noon, we had lunch at school. Then, we walked around Milfontes and students showed us the most important places there. At the end of the day, everyone was together, talking, meeting new people and getting to know each other even better.
Day 3 Rota Vicentina
April 21st
In the morning, we left Selina Hostel to go to school at 8.45. From there, we were taken by car to the hiking spot. The route was a little bit hard to walk due to the sand. When we got back to the starting point, we ate a tasty lunch. After lunch, we went to the fishing port to see the local fishing. In the evening, we went to school where we were told what Fado music is and there was also live music. Joana Luz sang for us and two men played the regular guitar and the Portuguese guitar.
Day 4 Living in Portugal
April 22nd
In the morning, some of us went surfing, others were working on this photobook and other school tasks. Another alternative activity was fishing, but it was canceled due to bad weather. Before and after lunch, we had workshops related to cooking and learning the basics of Portuguese and Finnish. In the evening, some of us had dinner at a fancy restaurant.
Day 5 Sea Day
April 23rd
The morning started with presentations at school and then we headed to the Praia da Ilha. We got to hear about Ecoalga’s sea-aged wines and got to taste red and white wines. For lunch, we ate barbecue food. We a had quick tour around Porto Covo. We went back to Vila Nova de Milfontes and headed to Praia da Franquia where we did beach activities.
Day 6 25th of April
April 24th
In the morning, we woke up and went to a local windmill. Then, we did a long walk, some got lost on the way. After a hard trip, we got to eat and drink. After the meal, we had a boat trip to see the scenery. In the evening, Odemira was celebrating the anniversary of the Portuguese Carnation Revolution. We saw fireworks!
Day 7 Last day in Milfontes.
April 25th
In the morning, we visited a Cork workshop and a pottery where we were taught how to make clay pots. Then, we had lunch at 5 star farm house. After lunch, one of the workers showed us their garden where most of the vegetables and herbs used in their meals come from. Later, we saw the last landscapes in Portugal. When we went back to the school, some of the students did presentations about different topics such as Lisbon, among others. After that, we were given our attendance certificates.
Day 8 A day in Lisbon
April 26th
In the morning, we left from Vila Nova de Milfontes and started our bus trip to Lisbon. In Lisbon, we drove around to see some sightings before we went to our hotel. The rest of the day, we went to Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre. In the evening, we had our last dinner together with the whole group at our hotel restaurant.
Day 9 Back to Finland
April 27th
We woke up early in the morning to have breakfast and go to the plane. There was a long flight from Lisbon to Helsinki and another one to Kittilä via Ivalo. We arrived in Kittilä at half past eight. The Sodankylä crew packed up their things in the car and there was still more than an hour to go. Everyone was happy but tired.
