1) Look at the headline/title/subheadings, source, any illustrations and captions in order to determine the genre you are going to work on, then anticipate what kind of information you expect from that particular text 2) Read the text carefully 3) Highlight key words and/or key sentences. 4) Divide the text up into sections and pay attention to subheadings. 5) Take notes 6) In your own words, list the main points of each section/paragraph (Do not include any minor details) 7) Make sure the order of your items is logical
