Christian is constantly exhibiting possessiveness and jealousy and then they make up by having sex. Their relationship lacks basic communication, trust, and understanding.

Firstly, there's the age difference; although Edward looks like a 17-year-old, he was born in 1901, making him 87 years older than Bella. Next, when Bella starts figuring out that Edward is a vampire, he gaslights her on multiple occasions. Finally, before the two of them get together, Edward stalks her on multiple occasions, including while she sleeps.

He acts violently and yells at her several times, but despite his abusive treatment, Belle gradually sees a softer side of him and she falls in love. The movie is basically an example of Stockholm Syndrome. This syndrome is described as a psychological reaction where a person establishes an emotional bond with his captor.

When Tessa and Hardin become a couple, their relationship is full of break-ups and arguing back-and-forth. Hardin usually acts violently due to his short temper and the alcohol he consumes. He throws items across the room and punches walls multiple times . At one point, Tessa admits hat she was worried that Hardin would slap her out of rage. Tessa slaps Hardin whenever he angers her, and she feels the need to control every aspect of his life, to know where he is and what he is doing at all times.

The Joker is highly unstable, manipulative and both physically and emotionally abusive of Harley. He belittles her, and Harley is unaware of the manipulation. She is submissive and devoted, satisfied with a minimum amount of affection. Many of the things she does are just to impress the Joker. The Joker makes her feel bad about herself, and exploits her vulnerability, manipulating her into doing what he wants.
