Creation of the model

THE END!!!

What do we have to achieve during this unit?

Objectives

  • To understand how our body is composed
  • To translate understanding into the creation of a model
  • To make relations between our body and learnt contents at class
  • To discover the different functions and parts of each system
  • To learn about different illnesses and how to prevent them
  • To be able to have an integrated vision of our body

How are we going to succeed?

  • Watching some videos and completing different related tasks
  • Doing some individual activities
  • Working with peers

1. MusCuloskeletal system

It is composed of many bones and muscles

It supports the body and protects the organs.

It lets you move your body parts and go from one place to another.

Humans have got an internal skeleton, which is made of 206 different bones!!

1.2. FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETON

1.2. FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETON

  1. -It supports the body and helps to keep its shape
  2. It protects the body’s soft organs, like the brain and eyes, the lungs, the heart and the spinal cord
  3. Movement, because the bones are connected to the muscles

1.3. FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETAL SYSTEM

1.3. FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETAL SYSTEM

  1. Production of blood cells
  2. Support
  3. Movement
  4. Protection
  5. Storage of minerals
  6. Endocrine regulation

Ok, little scientist, now we are going to learn some important bones that we have in our body. but first, I want you to play some games and see how many of them you know...

GAME TIME!

Once you have finished, please, call me and I'll come to see your score.

1.3. BONES

Different shapes and forms

Long

These are mostly compacted bones and include most of the bones in the limbs. These bones tend to support weight and help movement.

short

Only a thin layer of compact bone, these include bones of the wrist and ankle.

flat

Usually, bones that are thin and curved. Flat bones include most of the bones of the skull and the sternum. They tend to have a protective role.

Irregular

They have an unusual shape. They include the bones of the spine and pelvis. They are often protecting organs or tissues.

1.3. BONES

We can put the bones into 3 groups:

Bones in the head

Bones in the extremities (arms and legs)

Bones of the torso

The bones in the torso are:

  • The spine (or vertebral column or spinal column)
  • The sternum
  • The ribs

1.4. JOINTS

Joints are places where two or more bones are connected.

There are 3 types

Fixed: they can't move

Semi-moveable: they can move a l ittle (vertebrae)

Moveable: they can move a lot (elbows, knees, shloulders)

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

Let's revise the skeleton and the most important bones

Ok, little scientist, up to this point, you should know some more bones of the skeleton. Play again, and let's see how many do you know now.

GAME TIME!

Once you have finished, please, call me and I'll come to see your score.
