Welcome to my lab. I am the famous Dmitri Mendeleev! I've been working on a new way of categorising the elements...
Wh... what's happening?
We don't like your new system Dmitri so we've locked you inside your own periodic table...
...mwahaha...
You've got to help me escape!
Dmitri Mendeleev has been trapped inside his periodic table by Dalton and Newlands.Use the clues to find the code and help Mendeleev escape!

Hi, John Newlands here!Oh it's you again. You should be able to identify the first 2 digits of the code... If you can find my lab!Mwahaha...

Newland's table of elements:
My assistant has the first 21 elements of Newland's table over there.
In which 2 columns of Newland's table are the properties of the elements the same? The column numbers are part of the code

Well done chemist! The third digit is x
I'm John DaltonIf you really must insist on freeing Dmiri then answer my questions for the third digit of the codeI arranged the elements in order of their atomicNewlands took my idea and noticed the properties of the elements were similar every 8th element. He called this the law of

I'm Dmitri Ivanovic Mendeleev! I've had a breakthrough with the order of the known elements. Answer the questions in my notebook to get the 4th digit of the code.

- Atomic weight
- Order of discovery
- Number of electrons
- Leave a gap
- Ignore the element
- Put the element at the end of a row
- Groups
- Periods
- Shells
- Tables
- They had not been discovered yet
- They are not reactive
- They are not elements
I did not include noble gasses in my table because
I first arranged the elements in order of
I then placed elements with similar properties in a colum, these are called
When the next element did not fit the pattern I decided to
Well done! The fourth digit of the code is e

Search the boulders for clues
You have found a bust of Democritus who, along with his mentor Leucippus, devised the theory of the atom. There is something scratched underneath which says "Code is hidden behind the second pillar"
The graffiti scrawled on the rock reads... "check the face of the second statue"

Once you crack the code make a note of it. You will need it to answer some of the other questions

Find JJ Thompson and Ernest Rutherford amongst this line up of attendees at a physics conference in Brussels, 1913
Louis De Broglie - French quantum physicyst and winner of the 1929 Nobel Prize for physics.
Marie Curie - Polish and French chemist who is the only person to win the Nobel Prize in 2 different scientific fields and the only woman to win the Nobel Prize twice.
Louis Georges Gouy - French physicist who studied many aspects of electrostatics, waves and magnetic fields.
Hendrik Lorentz - Dutch physicist who shared the 1902 Nobel Prize for physics with Pieter Zeeman on electromagnetic spectra.
Walther Nernst - Won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1920 for his work on electrochemical cells.
Albert Einstein - German born physicist, won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1921 for his work on the photoelectric effect. Possibly more famously developed the theory of relativity.

JJ Here! Great to see you at this conference. I just love particle physics! My cathode ray tube experiments led to the discovery of a particle. Find the code in ancient Greece. The letter of my particle model is digit 5 of the code

Hi, Rutherford's the name!My alpha particle scattering experiments led to an improved model of the plum pudding model. The foil was made of a metal. The chemical symbol of that metal makes digits 6-7 of the code

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you chemist. You have saved me and my periodic table!
You know Mendeleev old chap, Newlands and I have been thinking, scientific models are constantly being improved. Just like JJ Thompon, Rutherford and Bohr's improvements to the model of the atom maybe Newlands and I should embrace your discovery! No hard feelings eh?
Oh not these two again!
Hmph!
