• Located on the Champ de Mars in Paris, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most well known structures in the world.
• The Eiffel Tower was originally built as the entrance arch for the World's Fair in 1889.
• It is named after architect Gustave Eiffel.
• The Eiffel Tower is 320 metres (1050 feet) in height and was the tallest man made structure in the world for 41 years.
• The Eiffel Tower is made of iron and and is painted every 7 years to protect it from rust.

• The Arc de Triomphe was built in honour of the French army by the order of the French emperor Napoleon. It is a symbol of patriotism and pride.
• To reach at the top of Arch de Triomphe, you have to be climb up to 280 stairs
• From the top, the Paris city looks fabulous, and you can see about all the top landmarks in the city.
• There is a tomb of an unknown soldier of World War I just underneath the Arc.

The Louvre museum in Paris is the largest museum in the world and houses more than 35,000 works of art such as paintings, sculpture, drawing and archaeological objects! The palace which was built as a fortress in the 12th century became a museum in 1793. A glass pyramid was later built in the courtyard over the main underground entrance. The famous painting of Mona Lisa (also called 'La Joconde' in French) by Leonardo da Vinci is exhibited in the Louvre.

The château or castle on the outskirts of Paris was built as a hunting lodge for Louis XIII in 1624 but later transformed into a huge palace. After the French Revolution when the royal family was forced to move out of the castle, the palace fell into disrepair. The palace has been largely restored and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

This French landmark is a tiny island located in a small bay off the north western coast of France. The island which is only cut off during high tide, is accessible by foot via a bridge since 2014. On top of the rocky island stands an impressive abbey which was built and expanded over several centuries. Today only about 40 people live in the small village around the parish church and the abbey.

The lavender fields in southern France are popular with many visitors when the bright purple fragrant lavender blossoms from late June to early August. The smell is truly amazing! Lavender flowers are harvested and turned into a variety of beautiful products.

Mont Blanc is located in the French Alps (South East of France). It is Western Europe's highest mountain peak. The French Alps are popular for winter sports such as skiing, mountain climbing and even winter Olympic games (1924, 1968, 1992).

The famous bridge in Avignon is built on the river Rhone, which is second longest but deepest river in France. Avignon was in the medieval ages home to the pope. The bridge across the river only has some arches still intact, as the parts of the bridge were swept away during a big flood in the 17th century. Still the bridge remains a main landmark. There is a popular children rhyme 'Sur le pont d'Avignon'?

Sacré Cœur (meaning 'holy heart') is the famous cathedral in Montmartre, the artists' quarters of Paris. The enormous church stands on a hill near the centre of the city.
