A Planning TooL for Creating Culturally Relevant Experiences

Hope verbs are used to promote authentic, culturally relevant learning sessions which respond to racial and social injustice.

Consider this...

Most of us were trained to revere Bloom's Taxonomy, a hierarchy to creating learning experiences...based on 'complexity'

What if...instead...remembering facts meant remembering people, family, heroes, cherished experiences? What if this action helped us to tap into our humanity more deeply than anything else when learning content?

Lou M

What if we ask different questions?Use different verbs.

How do we see experiences holistically beyond deduction?

For what purposes do we apply? How do we respond to injustice?

How might we recall the histories of those who have been forgotten?

What should we create, if we care?

How should we respond to information or ideas that harm others?

What do you notice about these examples?

We will illuminate local small business excellence as we explore linear equations ( eg breakeven etc).

We will disrupt narratives on local gentrification by examining nonlinear relationships between local investment, employment and housing variables.

Do other verbs fit?

Lou M

Writing Hope Statements

  • Begin with "We will" to represent shared community (we) as well as present activity (will vs will be able to)
  • Choose and discuss a hope verb that represents a desired human topic and response
  • Integrate the human activity and response with an appropriate math topic and objective.
