Message from the Headmaster
Dear Parents,
This last week of term has been a tremendous success with so much going on. Our CCF annual camp has occurred, the Friendship Holiday, Junior House residential and prize giving, a colour run, Flamingoland trip and many other bespoke year group activities. All completed in the heat by patient pupils (and staff!).
As I type I am on my way to London to celebrate the 100th anniversary since the founding of St Cuthbert's, the first house in the College in 1926. I can't imagine not having Houses here at Ampleforth - they are a focal point of our shared lives and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those staff involved in Boarding Houses for their hard work.
It has been a promising year for the College with an array of highlights. I look forward to a positive intake of pupils in September and another fine year next year.
I wish you all a safe and happy summer holidays.
Best wishes,
Jon

Last Friday, we welcomed families joining us in September to our New Starters Day. There was a sense of excitment as parents and students met each other for the first time, explored their boarding houses and classrooms, and got to know their new teachers.
The Final St Martin's Ampleforth Tea Party
At this year’s St Martin’s Ampleforth Tea Party, former pupils of St Martin’s gathered for a particularly special occasion. This year’s gathering marks the final year in which any students who attended St Martin’s remain at the College. To commemorate the occasion, a slideshow of photographs from St Martin’s days was displayed on the big screen in Main Hall, prompting plenty of smiles, memories and conversation among those gathered. Of course, no tea party would be complete without a generous selection of cake, scones, sandwiches and refreshments, which were enjoyed as students reminisced about their time together. The event was both a joyful celebration and a poignant farewell to an important chapter in the shared history of St Martin’s and Ampleforth College.
The Final St Martin's Ampleforth Tea Party
Summer Camp with 1st Battalion, Scots Guards, with the word summer emphatically demonstrated by scorching temperatures encountered. With some modifications the cadets nevertheless were able to enjoy being hosted for a variety of different activities. This began with attending the Biennial Regimental Gathering, at which the cadets met HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and took home second place in the Swinton Quaich competition. The traditions, ethos and family atmosphere of the regiment were much in evidence, and it was a wonderful occasion for the cadets to be part of. From there the cadets were put through their paces on the drill square, tackled a PT session, honed their skills on the range and showed off their casualty evacuation skills – with an ongoing section competition an added incentive to enthusiasm. Alongside the activities the cadets were hosted to dinner in the Officer’s Mess and chatted enthusiastically with serving officers, many of them OAs, before a performance from a team of Pipers. The next morning those cadets in the Ampleforth Pipes & Drums then joined with their Scots Guards equivalents to practice and perform together.

Message from Mrs Dent
It has been
a busy week filled with triumph and tears as the final GCSE and A Levels were
taken and we said good bye to some wonderful Aidan’s girls destined for great
things in the wide world. We look forward to hearing how they get on in years
to come, and wish them all the best.
Celia and
Mimi were confirmed into the Anglican Communion on Sunday the 14th
at the Holy Cross Church in Gilling – a truly blessed occasion.
Our
monitors are relishing their new roles and responsibilities and have been doing
a super job helping to introduce our new starters this week on their first
visit to St Aidan’s. Our community is going to have some fabulous new ladies in
the coming September, we can’t wait!
Ceri Dent, Housemistress St Aidan's House
A reminder that if you'd like to keep up with the goings on of the House and girls, then do find us on social media. Please do also feel free to drop me line with news or pictures of interesting or note-worthy things the girls have been up to in the holidays. It's always nice to share their experience more widely on these pages to celebrate the many gifts and achievements of the girls.

Full Swing!
Not a reference to golf, popular as it is in House, but a nod to the busy nature of the term currently. Daily A Level and GCSE examinations, upcoming house events (tennis and basketball), socials, sports matches and the small matter of lessons are all packing the days in the run up to half term, which will start after Exhibition in a weeks time! This week we welcomed Fr Richard back into house to take our Ascention Mass, as always leaving the boys considering their faith but also the worls around them more deeply. I am pleased so many of you have managed to speak to Jonathan via Teams and I will be sending a few more invitations for next week. I look forward to seeing you all next weekend!

Message from the Housemaster
A rather calm week is coming to an end. The boys in the exam years are keeping their heads down and are working hard. On Monday, we announced the new monitor positions for next year. Congratulations to Head Boy Nolan, Head of House Joshua and Deputy Head of House Oscar. They have some very big shoes to fill, and I cannot thank Benny, Ambrose and Jonty enough for all they have done for the house this year. Finally, our house chapel has been further improved by the purchase of an electric church organ and the installation of a blessed water stoop which three of our boys made during the House Retreat.

Looking back while looking ahead
This half of term – busy as it is with public and trial exams, with fixtures, trips and preparations for Exhibition – seems increasingly marked by a turn to the past while looking ahead to the future. On Tuesday, the Year 13s enjoyed their last Taco Tuesday together; we had earlier in the week welcomed the new Year 12 School Monitors to their roles. New positions of responsibility within the CCF are being considered and Year 9s and Year 11s are finalising their subject choices. As a House, we look forward to welcoming many of you to the Valley next week. It will be an opportunity to talk about the past year, to celebrate successes, evalute strengths and areas for development, and to consider what lies ahead. Looking back at the year so far, I am delighted by all that the boys have achieved so far.
Message from Ms Paterson
Dear Parents,
As the trunks come out and the corridors empty for another summer, I wanted to write and tell you just how proud I am of the girls this term — proud of who they are, how they’ve grown, and the sheer good company they’ve been to be around.
A Term to Be Proud Of
It has been a genuinely lovely term in St Margaret’s. From the early-morning starts to the late-night chats that definitely should have ended an hour before they did, the girls have brought energy, kindness, and a fair amount of mischief to every corner of the House. They’ve supported each other through deadlines and dramas, cheered each other on at fixtures, and somehow managed to make even the washing-up rota feel like a community event. Whatever the challenge this term, they’ve met it with humour and heart, and that says a great deal about the kind of young women they’re becoming.
Activities Week
Activities Week was, without question, one of the highlights of the term. Watching the girls take on new challenges — out of their comfort zones, out of their phones, and very much out of their normal routines — was a joy. They threw themselves into everything with such good grace: muddy, soggy, tired, and laughing the whole way through. Whether they were out on the water, up a climbing wall, lost (briefly) on a hike, or elbow-deep in something creative back at school, they did the House proud every single day. It is genuinely one of the privileges of this job to take them out on trips and watch them be brave, daft, and brilliant in equal measure — I’ve come home from every single one with a smile and at least one story I’ll be retelling for years.
Looking Back, and Looking Ahead
This year has been full of achievements, big and small — on the sports pitch, in the classroom, on stage, and quietly, in the day-to-day kindness the girls show one another that doesn’t always make the prize list but matters more than almost anything else. I am so proud of how far they’ve come.
And now we look forward. Next year is a chance to build on everything they’ve done this year — to take the confidence, the friendships, and the lessons learned (including, hopefully, the location of the laundry basket) and go even further. There is real talent and real character in this House, and I cannot wait to see where they take it.
A Personal Note
I have genuinely enjoyed the girls’ company this week — it has been a really lovely end of term, full of laughter, last-minute hugs, and the particular chaos that only the final week of a school year can produce. I will miss them over the summer, even the noise.
Thank you, as ever, for entrusting your daughters to us. I hope you have a wonderful, restful summer together — they have earned it, and so, frankly, have you.
With very best wishes,
Head's of School Next Year

Housemasters message
This week in Junior House has been full of energy, teamwork, and fun.
With Saturday’s cricket fixtures cancelled due to the weather, students made the most of the afternoon with dodgeball in SAC and cricket at house. The hockey and netball dinners on Saturday evening were also a great success and enjoyed by all. On Sunday, the students had a fantastic trip to Go Ape in Dalby Forest, where they loved tackling the obstacles and zip lines together. It was wonderful to see so much encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the day. Thursday brought away cricket fixtures at Aysgarth. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the students showed excellent determination and community spirit, supporting and encouraging one another throughout the matches. As we look ahead to the weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities for students to socialise, play games together, and prepare for the final week of the half term.

While it is never easy to say goodbye, I leave with immense gratitude and with many happy memories that we will cherish as a family. Ampleforth is a place unlike any other, and it will always hold a very special place in our hearts. With my very best wishes to you all for the future,

It has been a busy week filled with triumph and tears as the final GCSE and A Levels were taken and we said good bye to some wonderful Aidan’s girls destined for great things in the wide world. We look forward to hearing how they get on in years to come, and wish them all the best. Celia and Mimi were confirmed into the Anglican Communion on Sunday the 14th at the Holy Cross Church in Gilling – a truly blessed occasion. Our monitors are relishing their new roles and responsibilities and have been doing a super job helping to introduce our new starters this week on their first visit to St Aidan’s. Our community is going to have some fabulous new ladies in the coming September, we can’t wait!

Dear Parents, As the trunks come out and the corridors empty for another summer, I wanted to write and tell you just how proud I am of the girls this term — proud of who they are, how they’ve grown, and the sheer good company they’ve been to be around. A Term to Be Proud Of It has been a genuinely lovely term in St Margaret’s. Activities Week Activities Week was, without question, one of the highlights of the term. Looking Back, and Looking Ahead This year has been full of achievements, big and small — on the sports pitch, in the classroom, on stage, and quietly, in the day-to-day kindness the girls show one another that doesn’t always make the prize list but matters more than almost anything else. A Personal Note I have genuinely enjoyed the girls’ company this week — it has been a really lovely end of term, full of laughter, last-minute hugs, and the particular chaos that only the final week of a school year can produce.
