Swaged Bolt Removal Lockbolt
Removal Lockbolt
Removal of a Lockbolt-type fastener is carried out in two steps:
- Collar removal
- Fastener body removal
Collar removal
Several methods for breaking the collar:
Avec une pince type "coupe boulon" Each diameter has its own cutting edge width. Cut the swaged collar longitudinally.
This method is preferred as it does not cause bore ovalization.
Collar removal
With a cold chisel
- Take care not to damage adjacent parts.
- Place a protective sheet or washer.
- Apply a backing support opposite the striking direction.
Warning: possible bore ovalization
Collar removal
With a collar breaker
- Take care not to damage adjacent parts.
- This tool is mounted on a rivet gun.
The force causes bore ovalization.
- To be used only when replacing fasteners with an oversize repair dimension.
Fastener body removal
Once the collar is removed, drive out the fastener body using a pin punch, with a backing support on the head side to prevent deformation of the assembled parts.
Use a pin punch of smaller diameter to avoid damaging the bore (scratching).
