Threaded Cylindrical Bolts Manual Installation
Introduction

La pose des fixations Pull-in (HPL) fasteners requires specific tooling and is therefore not described in this course.

Cylindrical bolt-type fasteners are installed by screwing the nut onto the threaded section. The simplest approach is to use ratchets (preferably a through-hole ratchet) with a socket.

It can also be held with a male hex key (known as an "Allen key") or ASTERTM if the fastener is not installed with interference fit.

To insert a fastener that must be installed with interference fit into a hole, the following striking tools may be used.
Riveting hammer and aluminum or brass punch
Mallet with plastic tips
And of course a backing element to absorb the impact at the rear of the assembly

Once the fastener is placed in its hole, the sequence is as follows:
- Positioning the nut.
- Tightening the nut.
- Cassure de l’hexagone d’entrainement.
Installation – Double Hexagon Nut (Hi-Lite)

Place the fastener in the hole.
Installation – Double Hexagon Nut (Hi-Lite)
Hand-tighten the nut onto the fastener. Until resistance to tightening is felt.
Installation – Double Hexagon Nut (Hi-Lite)
Hold with the male hex key and tighten on the first hexagon Until contact with the part or the required torque is reached.
Pour un montage sur mastic d’interposition non cured sealant, this first tightening on the first hexagon is mandatory to install sufficient tension to allow excess sealant to flow.
Installation – Double Hexagon Nut (Hi-Lite)
Continue tightening on the second hexagon. Until the drive hexagon breaks off.
To ensure that the breakoff is not caused by friction, the final movement before breakoff should be slow and cover an angular amplitude of approximately 20°.
Pour un montage sans mastic d’interposition ou sur mastic cured sealant, all tightening can be performed directly on the second hexagon.
