Threaded Cylindrical Bolts Types and Description

Introduction

Four main types of basic cylindrical bolt-type fasteners are available:

  • Hi-Lok (HL - HLR),
  • Hi-Tigue (HLT),
  • Hi-Lite (HST - HSTR),
  • Pull-in (HPL).

General Description of the Complete Fastener

The complete fastener consists of a corps et d’un nut (often called  "collar") le plus souvent auto-cassant. Depending on the fastener and the desired strength, a standard nut can also be used.

All three fastener types are composed of the same main elements:

  • Une head (protruding or countersunk)
  • Un shank (la partie active)
  • Une threaded section (where the nut is screwed on)

General Description of the Family - Body

In the new Hi-Lite and Hi-Lok, the hexagonal retention recess is replaced by hexagonale ASTERTM recess that provides better retention without damaging the fastener. Very effective for free-spinning and rotating installations (in composite materials, for example).

General Description of the Family - Body

The HI-TIGUE™ fastener design features a slight bead* slight bead* at the end of the smooth shank section. It enables bore calibration, thereby increasing the installed interference-fit fastener strength.

HI-LITE™ bolts are the direct evolution of HI-LOK™ bolts. These fasteners, usable with clearance or interference fit, offer up to 13% weight savings compared to the HI-LOK™ generation.

HI-LOK™ bolts are the original solution for reliable, structurally resistant assemblies.

The HI-TIGUE™ bolt was the first fastener developed for interference-fit installation. It improves the fatigue life of lightly loaded structures.

PULL-IN™ HPL

PULL-IN™ bolts were developed to improve the shear fatigue performance of assemblies through a reliable and quiet interference-fit installation process. These fasteners are installed in tension, thus avoiding the difficulties associated with the driven insertion of the previous three fasteners, such as head or structure damage.
