Introducing our school

Text + image

In order to manage the project effectively, the partners decided to divide the schools into 5 groups. Their separation was done by random selection. However, the particularities of the schools were also taken into account. Our goal was to create school groups that would function effectively with enthusiasm and creativity.

November Action Plan: Exploring Nature with EcoLino & Mossy November focuses on understanding the natural world through the 5E instructional model and collaborative STEAM activities, guided by EcoLino and a new character, Mossy. Initially, students receive a video message from EcoLino and collect natural materials like leaves and twigs during family walks. They study these items and contribute drawings to co-create a collaborative digital artwork of a tree, finishing with interactive educational games. Next, in a hands-on STEAM activity, classes analyze material properties, build physical nests for the mascot, and write short descriptions about their research. Partner schools then connect in a live online meeting to build a shared digital mind map of their findings and sketch components for a joint digital forest nest. Finally, students play targeted digital games to solve puzzles and uncover the first hidden clues about the appearance and name of EcoLino’s magical friend.

December focuses on the principles of a healthy, eco-friendly diet through the 5E instructional model, family involvement, and cultural exchange. The month begins with an engaging video message from EcoLino that introduces students to food groups and the concept of a balanced "Healthy Plate" consisting of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates. After identifying nutritious foods through interactive lessons, students apply their knowledge by creating a physical Healthy Plate for their classroom. Collaboration deepens as partner schools form international groups to design unified, AI-enhanced healthy plates for the character Mossy. In this joint effort, each class selects a specific food group, draws an item, and records a video explaining its health benefits, culminating in a shared presentation of unique nutritional plates. Families are also invited into the learning process through a creative Food Art activity at home. The month finishes with cultural exploration and reflection. Students play partner-made digital review games and contribute to a major collaborative project: a European recipe book titled "EcoLino’s Yummy World." For this cookbook, each school submits a traditional, healthy national recipe written in their native language with English translations, accompanied by student artwork that breaks down the recipe's ingredients into proper nutritional categories.

DECEMBER 2023 "Preparation and Logo Creation"

1. Students identify healthy and unhealthy foods, learn about basic food groups, and are introduced to the “Healthy Plate” model in a simple way (½ vegetables–fruits, ¼ protein, ¼ carbohydrates). 2. Every class then works collaboratively to design and assemble its own Healthy Plate using drawings, magazine cutouts, or other craft materials. 3.Share Your Healthy Plates in the Gallery bellow.

Each class chose a food group and a type of food, the students drew or created the chosen food and at the end explained how this food contributes to human health.

January introduces students to organic farming and closed ecosystems through hands-on STEAM learning and the 5E instructional model. The month kicks off with an inspiring video message from EcoLino, challenging the children to become organic farmers. To prepare cognitively, students watch educational videos about plant growth and draw plants inside jars. They then collaborate internationally using a shared digital platform to contribute individual plant crafts, building a collective virtual Sky Garden for the project mascot. The core practical phase focuses on engineering and science as each class constructs its own mini-greenhouse using jars, boxes, or plastic bottles. Students fill these with soil or cotton, sow seeds, and engineer a simple automatic watering system using straws or cotton to observe how water naturally circulates in a closed environment. Throughout the month, students take on the role of scientists by keeping a class Plant Diary. They use a standard observation sheet to measure and record vital growth data, such as height, humidity, and temperature, across four distinct developmental stages, documenting the progress through photos and illustrations. To conclude the month, these individual class diaries and greenhouse photos are compiled into a massive, unified presentation showcasing every school's effort. Finally, families participate through a dedicated home activity, and students test their knowledge by playing interactive, partner-made digital games centered on farming and the environment.

February focuses on biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and digital citizenship. Guided by a video message from EcoLino, partner schools collaborate in international groups to write and illustrate a shared e-book titled "EcoLino and the Five Seed Friends." Each school contributes a specific stage of a plant's life cycle using shared documents, naming their characters through interactive voting and generating matching artwork with AI tools. Simultaneously, in the "My City Life Cycle" activity, students investigate local biodiversity by observing a native plant or animal near their school. They document its four growth stages with drawings, photos, and brief descriptions, which are combined into a joint presentation showcasing wildlife across partner cities. Finally, classes celebrate Safer Internet Day by designing original digital safety characters, which are merged into a collaborative poster titled "Heroes of the Digital World," alongside themed partner games and family activities.

March introduces students to the principles of waste reduction and reuse through the 5E instructional model and hands-on environmental creativity. Prompted by a video message from EcoLino, partner schools collaborate on two major activities. First, they build a shared digital dictionary titled "EcoLino's Word Garden," where each class contributes assigned vocabulary related to sustainability, providing definitions in their native language alongside simple illustrations. Second, in the "EcoBots for a Cleaner Future" challenge, students collect recyclable items to design and build physical robots engineered to protect the environment. Classes document their construction stages and create a brief video presentation, which are compiled into a collaborative project-wide video gallery. The month concludes with interactive Spring Online Workshops connecting both students and parents across Europe, followed by themed digital games where classes decode Mossy’s emails to unlock new clues about the appearance and name of EcoLino’s mysterious friend.

April centers around Earth Day and global environmental citizenship aligned with the sustainable development goals. Guided by a video message from EcoLino, students embark on a virtual journey across six partner countries, with each school taking on a specific eco-friendly mission. Children from Greece tackle water conservation, Italy focuses on sustainable mobility, Lithuania protects forests, Romania practices waste recycling, Spain explores clean solar energy, and Türkiye drives creative material reuse. Reinforcing school-home continuity, students practice these green habits in class and repeat them at home with parental support, documenting their everyday gestures through photos. Individual school drawings are then combined into national collages and pinned onto a shared interactive European map of good deeds. Furthermore, schools use AI assistance to compose a themed song or nursery rhyme in their native language representing their specific environmental mission, which is added to a joint digital display called the "Flower of the Earth." The month concludes with all partner schools visiting a shared platform to sign a collective environmental commitment titled "The Green Pact." Finally, students play their last round of interactive digital games to decode Mossy’s final emails, unlocking the remaining hidden clues to solve the mystery of EcoLino’s magical friend.

STUDENTS: The students participating in this project chose "Ecolino's Forest Nest" as their favorite collaborative activity, while "The Digital Tree of Nature" was their least favorite. Regarding individual activities, their favorite was listening to the monthly messages and challenges that Ecolino posted, and their least favorite was learning about the life cycle. In general, they are more aware of how to reuse materials and its importance to nature, as well as of turning off the tap, but less so of turning off the lights or throwing trash in the proper place. They love working collaboratively with children from other countries and, of course, becoming eARTH KEEPERS!! FAMILIES: Half of the families reported that their children talked about the project frequently at home, and that they also followed its progress often via Twinspace and other social media. Three-quarters of the families perceived significant changes in their children's attitudes toward environmental care, highlighting saving water and electricity, and an increased interest in plant care, as the most established habits. There were differing opinions on the project's influence on their children's interest in other cultures. Overall, they felt the project had improved their children's digital skills, and nearly 100% considered the communication of information about the project from schools to be adequate. They all agreed that their children's favorite activity had been building the nest for Ecolino! TEACHERS:For most of the participating teachers, the project has met their pedagogical expectations, and they rate the collaboration and communication with the other participants as excellent. Regarding the digital tools used, the most valued was the use of WhatsApp and the least valued was the Twin Space Forum. Regarding the integration of the project into the curriculum, most have been able to do so completely. The greatest impact of the project on the students has been to increase their knowledge about environmental problems. Overall, the workload for this project has been balanced; the biggest obstacle encountered by a small number of participants has been the lack of time and resources in their home schools. Most would be delighted to participate in new projects with the same colleagues, and overall they affirm that the project has been very visible within the educational community. Finally, the favorite activity has been building mini greenhouses in the classrooms to observe the growth of the seeds.
