I recommend the Sumidero Canyon. Located between Chiapa de Corzo and Tuxtla Gutierrez, its imposing limestone walls rise up to 1,000 meters above the Grijalva River.
You have to take a boat trip from Chiapa de Corzo, which travels from the Malecón (boardwalk) to the immense walls of the Sumidero Canyon and beyond.
It costs 800 pesos per person.
There are a small number of hotels in Chiapa de Corzo, all near mini-markets for buying anything you might need. Prices range from 600 to 1,000 pesos per night.
After the boat trip, you can ask the captain to take you to a famous spot along the river, or if you prefer, you can have a drink on the Malecón. Alternatively, you can stroll through the Parque de Armas.
