“After our initial meetings, we officially launched our collaborative work. Our students used AI to design their team logos, followed democratic voting procedures to select their team names, and began working on joint activities related to World Days, with a special focus on Sustainable Development Goals 4, 5, 10, and 13.”

Short Analysis of the Pre-Project Survey – “Empower & Inspire” The pre-project survey provides a useful snapshot of the 15–18-year-old students who joined the “Empower & Inspire” eTwinning project. Just over half of the participants were female, and a large majority (89.7%) had never taken part in an eTwinning project before, showing that for most students this was a new international collaborative experience. Key findings Limited awareness of the SDGs: Students’ knowledge of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals was generally low. 44.8% had never heard of the SDGs, while 48.3% had only heard of them without knowing details. Only 6.9% knew a few SDGs, and none reported being very familiar with them. This highlights a strong need for introductory work on global issues and sustainability. Moderate digital confidence: Most students felt at least somewhat confident using digital tools for school projects. 44.8% felt “quite confident,” while 34.5% were only “slightly confident.” A smaller group (10.3%) felt very confident, suggesting mixed levels of digital competence within the group. English communication is the main challenge: When asked which skill they most needed to improve, the largest group (44.8%) chose communication in English. This was reinforced by Question 5, where many students rated their confidence in communicating with international peers at the lower to middle levels. Improving English communication clearly represents a central motivation and need for participants. Limited experience with online collaboration: More than 60% of students said they never or rarely work collaboratively online with other students. This indicates that the project offers an important opportunity to develop teamwork and online collaboration skills in an international context. Positive attitudes toward intercultural collaboration: Despite limited prior experience, students showed a very open attitude toward working with peers from different cultural backgrounds. 79.3% rated themselves as open or very open (levels 4–5), which is a strong foundation for successful international cooperation. Awareness of digital citizenship is developing: A majority (62.1%) correctly identified digital citizenship as the responsible and ethical use of digital technologies. However, the remaining students held misconceptions, showing that digital citizenship education should still be an important project component. Overall conclusion The survey suggests that students enter the “Empower & Inspire” project with enthusiasm and openness to international collaboration, but with limited prior experience in eTwinning, online teamwork, and SDG awareness. Their strongest perceived need is improving English communication, while digital skills and collaboration skills also require support. The project is therefore well positioned to help students grow in global awareness, intercultural communication, digital competence, collaboration, and responsible digital citizenship.

1. Skill Development and Student Confidence The project demonstrated a significant positive impact on the students' digital and communicative competencies. According to the post-project evaluation: 82.4% of the students reported an improvement in their digital tool skills. 64.7% stated that their communication skills had enhanced. 64.7% experienced a boost in confidence regarding both communication and the use of digital tools. 64.7% found the overall experience and knowledge gained throughout the project to be highly reassuring. Furthermore, student engagement during the collaborative tasks was remarkably high, with 58.8% of the participants stating that they found the collaborative activities highly enjoyable.

2. Core Activities and Learning Outcomes The project successfully implemented a diverse range of pedagogical activities. These included group work, online presentations, discussion sessions, virtual meetings, independent research, and creative tasks such as avatar creation and writing acrostic poems. All activities were conducted in English, providing students with opportunities to work within mixed-nationality teams and interact with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds.

3. Future Prospects and Recommendations for Improvement The project fostered high institutional engagement, as evidenced by the 70.6% of students who expressed a strong willingness to participate in similar future projects. While some students felt the project was flawless ("Nothing. It was perfect." and "These things we've done should be done everywhere."), others provided constructive feedback for future iterations. Their recommendations can be categorized into four main areas: Enhanced Communication: Increasing the frequency of online video conferences with partner schools and utilizing social media platforms for smoother peer-to-peer communication. Increased Collaboration: Allocating more opportunities for teamwork. Physical Mobility: Integrating face-to-face meetings and physical exchange visits between the participating schools and countries. Time Management: Extending the overall duration of the project and providing more time for both the preparation and execution phases to further elevate project quality. Overall, the project proved to be a highly reassuring, impactful, and well-received educational initiative.

Ipsala Anatolian High School, Edirne / Turkiye

It is a small, single-story building nestled among trees. The school has approximately 200 students and 25 teachers. Most of the students come from the villages of İpsala. It is located in a town on the banks of the Meriç River. The Greece/Kipi-İpsala border crossing is nearby. The school's mission is

to prepare students for life as individuals who can communicate effectively with themselves and their environment,

are equipped with national and universal values, respectful of society and nature.

Working collaboratively, students composed an acrostic poem based on the words EMPOWER and INSPIRE and creatively transformed it into a song. This activity fostered teamwork, creativity, self-expression, and a sense of shared achievement.
