Message from the Headmaster

The RAF Section of the Combined Cadet Force recently enjoyed an exciting and informative Field Day visit to RAF Waddington. Hosted by serving RAF personnel, cadets toured the station and explored a range of engagement stands showcasing specialist equipment and aircraft. Highlights included visiting the home of the Red Arrows, as well as learning about the capabilities of the Protector Drone and the highly specialised Rivet Joint ISTAR platform. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for cadets to speak directly with RAF personnel, ask questions about careers and trades within the RAF, and gain a deeper understanding of the professionalism and expertise required in modern air operations. It was a memorable and inspiring experience for all involved.

The Final St Martin's Ampleforth Tea Party

At this year’s St Martin’s Ampleforth Tea Party, former pupils of St Martin’s gathered for a particularly special occasion. This year’s gathering marks the final year in which any students who attended St Martin’s remain at the College. To commemorate the occasion, a slideshow of photographs from St Martin’s days was displayed on the big screen in Main Hall, prompting plenty of smiles, memories and conversation among those gathered. Of course, no tea party would be complete without a generous selection of cake, scones, sandwiches and refreshments, which were enjoyed as students reminisced about their time together. The event was both a joyful celebration and a poignant farewell to an important chapter in the shared history of St Martin’s and Ampleforth College.

Message from Mrs Dent

It has been a busy week filled with triumph and tears as the final GCSE and A Levels were taken and we said good bye to some wonderful Aidan’s girls destined for great things in the wide world. We look forward to hearing how they get on in years to come, and wish them all the best. Celia and Mimi were confirmed into the Anglican Communion on Sunday the 14th at the Holy Cross Church in Gilling – a truly blessed occasion. Our monitors are relishing their new roles and responsibilities and have been doing a super job helping to introduce our new starters this week on their first visit to St Aidan’s. Our community is going to have some fabulous new ladies in the coming September, we can’t wait!

Ceri Dent, Housemistress St Aidan's House

A reminder that if you'd like to keep up with the goings on of the House and girls, then do find us on social media. Please do also feel free to drop me line with news or pictures of interesting or note-worthy things the girls have been up to in the holidays. It's always nice to share their experience more widely on these pages to celebrate the many gifts and achievements of the girls.

Full Swing!

Not a reference to golf, popular as it is in House, but a nod to the busy nature of the term currently. Daily A Level and GCSE examinations, upcoming house events (tennis and basketball), socials, sports matches and the small matter of lessons are all packing the days in the run up to half term, which will start after Exhibition in a weeks time! This week we welcomed Fr Richard back into house to take our Ascention Mass, as always leaving the boys considering their faith but also the worls around them more deeply. I am pleased so many of you have managed to speak to Jonathan via Teams and I will be sending a few more invitations for next week. I look forward to seeing you all next weekend!

Message from the Housemaster

A rather calm week is coming to an end. The boys in the exam years are keeping their heads down and are working hard. On Monday, we announced the new monitor positions for next year. Congratulations to Head Boy Nolan, Head of House Joshua and Deputy Head of House Oscar. They have some very big shoes to fill, and I cannot thank Benny, Ambrose and Jonty enough for all they have done for the house this year. Finally, our house chapel has been further improved by the purchase of an electric church organ and the installation of a blessed water stoop which three of our boys made during the House Retreat.

Last but not least

Here with Head Boy Nolan.

Looking back while looking ahead

This half of term – busy as it is with public and trial exams, with fixtures, trips and preparations for Exhibition – seems increasingly marked by a turn to the past while looking ahead to the future. On Tuesday, the Year 13s enjoyed their last Taco Tuesday together; we had earlier in the week welcomed the new Year 12 School Monitors to their roles. New positions of responsibility within the CCF are being considered and Year 9s and Year 11s are finalising their subject choices. As a House, we look forward to welcoming many of you to the Valley next week. It will be an opportunity to talk about the past year, to celebrate successes, evalute strengths and areas for development, and to consider what lies ahead. Looking back at the year so far, I am delighted by all that the boys have achieved so far.

Message from Ms Paterson

Dear Parents This week at St Margaret’s House we have seen plenty of fun, although sadly not a lot of sun! Despite the grey weather, the house has remained busy, positive and full of energy. Our girls have been working incredibly hard as exams continue, with Year 11 and 13s already sitting some of their papers and many others in the middle of exams. We are very proud of the determination and resilience being shown by all the girls during this busy period. On Sunday, we enjoyed a fantastic lunch created by our talented Year 12s. A huge thank you to them for all their hard work and effort it was a wonderful occasion and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. This week also brought the exciting announcement of our new monitors. Congratulations to all the girls appointed to these important roles: Issy -Head of House, Mima and Emily- Deputy Heads of House, Ruby LB -Sports Monitor, Alice DM- Head Monitor. We know they will all do an excellent job and lead the house with enthusiasm and kindness! A special academic mention this week goes to Clare Wang and Ruby LB, who were two of only six students in the whole of Year 12 to receive a letter from the Headmaster congratulating them on their exceptional exam achievements, hard work and outstanding performance in the mock exams. This is a tremendous accomplishment very well done to both girls! Our Year 10 girls also enjoyed a wonderful trip to Stanbrook Abbey with Mrs Carter. The girls absolutely loved the day and it was lovely to see such strong friendships and time spent together outside of school. As we head into the weekend, many girls are taking the opportunity to relax and recharge before the busy Exhibition Weekend ahead. We are very much looking forward to welcoming so many parents and families then. Wishing everyone a restful weekend. Warm regards, Rebecca

Housemasters message

This week in Junior House has been full of energy, teamwork, and fun. With Saturday’s cricket fixtures cancelled due to the weather, students made the most of the afternoon with dodgeball in SAC and cricket at house. The hockey and netball dinners on Saturday evening were also a great success and enjoyed by all. On Sunday, the students had a fantastic trip to Go Ape in Dalby Forest, where they loved tackling the obstacles and zip lines together. It was wonderful to see so much encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the day. Thursday brought away cricket fixtures at Aysgarth. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the students showed excellent determination and community spirit, supporting and encouraging one another throughout the matches. As we look ahead to the weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities for students to socialise, play games together, and prepare for the final week of the half term.
