General Information

The execution of this metallization will involve not doing or removing protections such as paints, varnishes, etc. In case of non-application of protections, it will be referred to as reservations. In the case of removing the insulating protective layer, it will be referred to as whitening, stripping or nakedness.

General information

Since the metal is exposed, it is necessary to apply the rules defined in the standards.

Generally and at minimum, it will be necessary to:

  • Respect the dimensions of the reserves or whitening.
  • Apply a protective definitive within two hours, otherwise a temporary protection must be applied.
  • Ensure waterproofing or reconstitute the protection system according to the standard.

Brushing operation

If a reserve pad exists, remove it and clean the surface to be metallised with a solvent.

Perform the brushing ensuring perpendicularity to the surface. The rotation speed must be slow.

The metal should be just bare. NO LAGGING.

  • The use of a reamer is forbidden unless specified in the manufacturing instructions.
  • The use of abrasive cloth is forbidden, except when stripping a cylindrical surface.
  • The brushed area will be 2 to 4 mm larger than the contact parts.
For a diameter, it will be 2 to 4 mm larger (some aircraft manufacturers allow up to 5 mm).
  • During brushing with a pilot wire brush, the diameter should be 0.3 to 0.5 mm less than the hole to avoid damage.
  • On unprotected titanium parts or stainless steel, do not brush, do not apply Vaseline, degrease using Diestone DLS.

Apply a thin layer of Vaseline with a brush on the bare metal, with a slight overflow onto the surrounding area.

The vaseline deposit must be made within 15 minutes of decapping.

The assembly must be completed within 4 hours of decapping and vaseline deposit. After this period, the vaseline deposit becomes protection for storage awaiting assembly.

Stainless steel or titanium parts will not be coated with a vaseline film; they will be degreased using Diestone DLS.
