“Sventurata è la terra che ha bisogno di eroi”,
La letteratura antica infatti ha regalato moltissime figure impegnate in eroiche missioni causate da dèi avversi – penso ad Aiace, Ettore, Eracle; eroi che muoiono ma in qualche modo restano invincibili. E poi c’è l’eroe degli eroi, Odisseo: il distruttore di Troia, l’impeccabile mente. Lui qualche debolezza la mostra: piange al ricordo dei compagni perduti, si strugge di nostalgia per Itaca; questo perché è umano e l’incipit dell’Odissea lo spiega subito chiaramente iniziando proprio con quella parola, “uomo”1. I tempi cambiano in Grecia soprattutto con l’Ellenismo, quando decadono i valori classici e tutto è in balia di una nuova divinità, la tùche, la sorte. In questo periodo si affaccia una nuova lettura dell’eroe Giasone, quella di Apollonio Rodio nelle Argonautiche. Il nuovo Giasone è amèchanos, “privo di risorse”, nella stessa misura in cui Odisseo per Omero è polùtropos, “dall’ingegno multiforme”: non si tira fuori dal pericolo da solo, sono gli dèi e una donna, Medea, a salvarlo in varie situazioni mentre lui, letteralmente, “non sa cosa fare”. Questo Giasone del 245 a.C. sembra proprio “un eroe che ha bisogno di eroi”, un eroe che dubita delle sue capacità; antieroe classico ma proprio per questo eroe ellenistico. Un uomo in preda alla sorte.
