A comprehensive Assessment
The official name of a full assessment is a comprehensive multisciplinary evaluation, and there are several components to it (Lee, n.d.). Click on the orange honeycombs to learn about each part!
3. Elegibility Decisions Parents and the team review copies of the evaluations conducted on the student and sit to discuss if a student is eligible for special education services based on the collected information (Center for Parent Information & Resources, 2022).
Types of Assessment

1. Evaluation Decisions: The team decides what information should be collected on the student to conduct an accurate assessment that reflects the student's abilities, inabilities, and growth. The evaluation decisions are student-specific and are chosen with validity and reliability in mind (NASET, 2021).
5. Educational Placement Decisions The assessment and information collected are used to determine the most appropriate placement for the child. The results of the assessments are to be used to make accurate and informed decisions without preconceived notions or bias (Klingner & Harry, 2006).
6. Instructional Planning Decisions The results of the assessment and the information collected will be used to guide the student's academic, social, emotional, and behavioral instruction (NASET, 2021).
Assessment
Assessments are a process that collects information and data on a student's strengths, weaknesses, and progress. Assessments include a variety of tests, observations, portfolios, and more to help the multidisciplinary team make decisions (NASET, 2021).
2. Diagnostic Decisions The assessment conducted by the team can provide information about the student's disability, which can lead to a diagnosis in one of the 13 categories listed under IDEA (NASET, 2021).
The multidisciplinary team makes 6 decisions in the assessment process: 1-Evaluation Decisions 2-Diagnostic Decisions 3-Elegibility Decisions 4-IEP Development Decisions 5-Educational Placement Decisions 6-Instructional Planning Decisions

Educational Evaluations Purpose: Educational Evaluations have a large significance to students, families, and their educational teams. Students often receive an evaluation to determine if a child has a disability as defined in IDEA, to gather information to support their educational needs, and to guide decision-making about appropriate programming
(Center for Parent Information & Resources, 2022).
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act defines 13 categories of disabilities that could affect students' ability to be successful in the classroom (U.S. Department of Education, 2018). These disabilities are outlined in section 300.8 of the act. Click on the orange honeycombs to discover all 13!
MDT: The Multidisciplinary Team
The Multidisciplinary team conducts the assessment of students who are identified as needing a comprehensive educational evaluation. The results of the assessments are examined by the team to help determine a student's eligibility for special education services. (NASET, 2021) Click on the orange + to find out who is on the team!
4. Individualized Education Plan Development Decisions The IEP is developed as a team using the information collected during the evaluation to ensure the student receives the support they need to be successful in the classroom. (NASET, 2021).
