He was born in 1903 in India to a British family, but he was educated in Engalnd. -He worked in the Imperial Police in Burma, an experience that made him deeply critical of oppressive power. -He fought in the Spanish Civil War, developing a strong rejection of all totalitarian regimes. -He wrote Animal Farm (1945) and 1984 (in 1949) and died in 1950.
