What Is Global Warming?

Global warming is the long-term increase in Earth’s average temperature. It is mainly caused by human activities that release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat and make the planet warmer. Global warming is part of a larger issue called climate change.

The Greenhouse Effect

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps Earth warm enough for life. Human activities increase greenhouse gases, making the effect stronger. This causes temperatures to rise too much.

How It Works: Sunlight reaches Earth. Earth absorbs heat. Some heat escapes back into space. Greenhouse gases trap part of the heat.

Main Causes of Global Warming

Agriculture

Deforestation

Coal, oil, and gas are used for electricity, factories, and transport. Burning them releases large amounts of CO₂.

Burning Fossil Fuels

Cows and livestock produce methane gas. Fertilizers release nitrous oxide.

Trees absorb carbon dioxide. Cutting forests increases CO₂ in the atmosphere.

Industrial Pollution

Waste and Landfills

Factories release greenhouse gases and harmful chemicals.

Garbage in landfills produces methane.

Human Activities That Increase Climate Change

  • Driving cars and airplanes
  • Using too much electricity
  • Fast fashion and overconsumption
  • Plastic pollution
  • Burning forests
  • Excessive use of natural resources

Evidence of Global Warming Scientists Have Observed

  • Rising global temperatures
  • Melting glaciers and ice caps
  • Rising sea levels
  • More frequent heatwaves
  • Stronger storms and hurricanes
  • Changes in rainfall patterns

Animals at Risk Polar bears Sea turtles Penguins Many fish species

Environmental ConsequencesEffects on Nature

  • Loss of biodiversity
  • Animals losing habitats
  • Coral reef destruction
  • Droughts and wildfires
  • Ocean warming and acidification

Effects on Humans

  • Health Problems
  • Heat strokes and dehydration
  • Respiratory diseases from pollution
  • Spread of diseases

Solutions to Global Warming

Cleaner Transportation

  • Electric cars
  • Public transportation
  • Bicycles and walking
  • Reducing Waste

Renewable Energy

  • Solar power
  • Wind power
  • Hydroelectric energy

Protecting Forests

  • Planting trees
  • Reducing deforestation

Why This Problem Matters
  • Global warming affects everyone.
  • Future generations will face bigger challenges if nothing changes.
  • Protecting the planet means protecting life, nature, and humanity.

Effects on Humans

Global warming is one of the biggest challenges in the world today. Human activities are increasing Earth’s temperature and causing serious environmental and social problems. However, by working together, using cleaner energy, protecting nature, and making better choices, we can slow climate change and create a healthier future.
