Let me read the Example Text.

I am Adam and I am six. In class the best part of my day is when the teacher reads books to us. The classroom feels snug and quiet. One afternoon there was a tap, tap, tap on the classroom door. The teacher opened it and there stood a little girl. I peered from under my glasses at her smooth skin and long dark hair. I said hello but she just looked at the floor… as sad as a shadow.

Each day she sat at her desk and did not speak or play. All she did was sketch and sketch and sketch. Her pictures showed sad things - boats tossed into storms and tents set alight. They showed a girl with splashes of tears down her cheeks. The pictures left a sadness deep in my chest. So I asked my cleverest adults to help me understand.

Mum said that she is just like me but she had to go far from her town. Dad said that she is just like me but she is all on her own now. I had to think and think and think how to be her pal. The next day I had a plan. I gathered boxes of the brightest crayons and most vivid paints. I painted the best pictures for her… but she did not look at them at all!

At last, she snuck a look at the pictures I painted just for her. A small grin appeared from her soft pink lips and my spirit was lifted. “Hello,” she said. “I am Layla.” Now Layla says hello to me each morning. We play in the playground and read books together. We sketch pictures filled with light and fun. Now she is not so sad… as she has a best pal!
