Grand View
The Grand View Hotel was Lake Placid’s second largest hotel. Built in 1878, the hotel was continuously expanded upon and increased in size over the years. Its presence was well known as it sat at the top of a hill overlooking Mirror Lake. Many considered it to have the best view in the Adirondacks. It presided over Lake Placid for nearly a century before it was torn down in 1961.

Stevens House
The Stevens House was an iconic hotel located at the top of Signal Hill with another glorious view of the Adirondacks. John A. Stevens acquired the property after a fire burned down the elaborate 'Excelsior House', owned by Joseph V. Nash. The Stevens House opened for operations in 1886. Accommodating 400 guests this grand hotel was quite popular for travelers. The Stevens House introduced electricity in 1889 and constructed a golf course in 1900.

Whiteface Inn
The Whiteface Inn was built in 1901 at the site of an earlier hotel called the Westside. Located on the west shore of Lake Placid, the life of this hotel was initially short, as it burned down in May of 1909. However, it was enthusiastically rebuilt in 1915 to welcome Adirondack guests. The Whiteface Inn was particularly popular as guide boats and canoes were available for guests to use. A multitude of regattas were held and a scenic golf course opened for play. Eventually an addition was built which doubled the size of the hotel. Operating until the early 1980s, the hotel was ultimately demolished.

Lake Placid Inn
The Lake Placid House, also known as the Lake Placid Inn, is considered to be the first real hotel built in the village. Built in 1871 by Benjamin Brewster, near the present day carry between Lake Placid and Mirror Lake, the name "Lake Placid House" didn’t stick. It came to be known simply as “Brewster's”, making this hotel's name synonymous with its creator. Heavy modifications and enhancements took place in the 1890s to help accommodate the ever-growing number of visitors to Lake Placid. The hotel’s life came to an end in 1920 when a pair of fires burned it to the ground.

Lakeside Inn
The Lakeside Inn, which later became the Lakeside Motor Inn, was situated close to the shore of Mirror Lake at the junction of present day Main Street and Saranac Avenue. Peter Roland Sr. bought the Lakeside Inn in 1957. Like many old hotels, the Lakeside caught fire and burned in 1959. Roland then built the Lakeside Motor Inn on the same site, capitalizing on the booming family travel trend of the late 50s and 60s.

Ruisseaumont Hotel
The Ruisseaumont Hotel was built in early 1892 on the East Lake of Lake Placid, close to Pulpit Rock. In contrast to the long life of many historic hotels in Lake Placid, the Ruisseaumont’s reign on the East Lake was quite short. Burning down on July 2, 1909, the hotel was not rebuilt. Within a year the hotel grounds were purchased by a group and private homes were built on the site.

Mirror Lake Inn
One of the few buildings in this exhibit that is still open today is the Mirror Lake Inn, originally known as the Mir-a-lak Inn. William Rufus Wikoff transformed an old estate in 1924 to develop a luxury resort for travelers visiting the Adirondacks from across the globe. Prior to the 1932 Winter Olympics, the Inn was winterized and the Norwegian Team rented the entire property. The spelling of the name was changed to Mirror Lake Inn when Mrs. Wikoff took ownership in 1933. Surviving a fire in 1988 that burned the main building of the hotel, which was rebuilt that same year, the Mirror Lake Inn stands tall today as one of Lake Placid’s most popular hotels.

Lake Placid Inn
The Lake Placid House, also known as the Lake Placid Inn, is considered to be the first real hotel built in the village. Built in 1871 by Benjamin Brewster, near the present day carry between Lake Placid and Mirror Lake, the name "Lake Placid House" didn’t stick. It came to be known simply as “Brewster's”, making this hotel's name synonymous with its creator. Heavy modifications and enhancements took place in the 1890s to help accommodate the ever-growing number of visitors to Lake Placid. The hotel’s life came to an end in 1920 when a pair of fires burned it to the ground.

Lakeside Inn
The Lakeside Inn, which later became the Lakeside Motor Inn, was situated close to the shore of Mirror Lake at the junction of present day Main Street and Saranac Avenue. Peter Roland Sr. bought the Lakeside Inn in 1957. Like many old hotels, the Lakeside caught fire and burned in 1959. Roland then built the Lakeside Motor Inn on the same site, capitalizing on the booming family travel trend of the late 50s and 60s.

Ruisseaumont Hotel
The Ruisseaumont Hotel was built in early 1892 on the East Lake of Lake Placid, close to Pulpit Rock. In contrast to the long life of many historic hotels in Lake Placid, the Ruisseaumont’s reign on the East Lake was quite short. Burning down on July 2, 1909, the hotel was not rebuilt. Within a year the hotel grounds were purchased by a group and private homes were built on the site.

Mirror Lake Inn
One of the few buildings in this exhibit that is still open today is the Mirror Lake Inn, originally known as the Mir-a-lak Inn. William Rufus Wikoff transformed an old estate in 1924 to develop a luxury resort for travelers visiting the Adirondacks from across the globe. Prior to the 1932 Winter Olympics, the Inn was winterized and the Norwegian Team rented the entire property. The spelling of the name was changed to Mirror Lake Inn when Mrs. Wikoff took ownership in 1933. Surviving a fire in 1988 that burned the main building of the hotel, which was rebuilt that same year, the Mirror Lake Inn stands tall today as one of Lake Placid’s most popular hotels.

The Whiteface Inn was particularly popular as guide boats and canoes were available for guests to use. A multitude of regattas were held and a scenic golf course opened for play. The Grand View Hotel was Lake Placid’s second largest hotel. Built in 1878, the hotel was continuously expanded upon and increased in size over the years. Its presence was well known as it sat at the top of a hill overlooking Mirror Lake. Many considered it to have the best view in the Adirondacks. It presided over Lake Placid for nearly a century before it was torn down in 1961.

The Stevens House was an iconic hotel located at the top of Signal Hill with another glorious view of the Adirondacks. John A. Stevens acquired the property after a fire burned down the elaborate 'Excelsior House', owned by Joseph V. Nash. The Stevens House opened for operations in 1886. Accommodating 400 guests this grand hotel was quite popular for travelers. The Stevens House introduced electricity in 1889 and constructed a golf course in 1900.
