1. Pick a topic that interests you 2. Go on your phone and find a blog on this topic. 3. Scan one of the blog posts - what is the main idea 4. Be ready to tell your friends - who writes the blog, how often they post, the title of the blog, and the main idea of the post you read.

Extension - finding the main idea.
Being able to find the main idea of a paragraph or a text is an important skill. Knowing what to look for will help you in a test or exam, or simply reading for pleasure.
Main Idea
The main idea is the most important idea in a paragraph.
Reading - finding the main idea
I strongly disagree with the suggestion that there is no value in continuing the bus service. Firstly, not everyone has a car, so won’t a public service always be required? Secondly, the bus gives teenagers necessary independence and the ability to travel. Thirdly, the bus is much more environmentally friendly than cars. Therefore the cost must be weighed against the cost to the environment if there were no bus service.

a) The author and her family are going camping.
b) The author and her family are going glamping.
c) There's a playground and a walking trail.
Find the main idea:
a) Kyoto has many beautiful sights to see.
b) The author is looking for a postcard to send home.
c) The lake was the most beautiful sight.
Find the main idea:
a) Gum is biogdegradable.
b) Gum gets stuck on the ground and stays there for many years.
c) Gum is made from syntheic polymers.
Find the main idea:
a) The blogger had a good time at the food festival.
b) The blogger thought the the cost of the food and delivery was too expensive.
c) The writer thought the food delivery offer was a good deal.
