THE PLOT
The series centers on half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott, initially rivals on the basketball court and in life, who over time develop a deep brotherly bond. They are joined by Peyton Sawyer, an introverted girl passionate about music, and Brooke Davis, the bubbly and fashionable cheerleader, both of whom are linked to Lucas in a tormented love triangle. The main group is rounded out by Haley James, Lucas's best friend and the lynchpin of the series, who marries Nathan, changing her life forever.
Lucas is the narrative hub of the first seasons, an introverted and thoughtful boy raised by his single mother, Karen.
