A sharing circle

A note as you begin
We just read the story of Noah uncovered in his tent. Three sons. Same moment. Three different responses. Ham exposed what he found. Shem and Japheth walked in backward, covered their father, and never made it a thing. Most of us have been on both sides of a moment like that. We've been the one exposed and we've been the one deciding what to do about it. This circle is about both.

A few things to keep in mind as you share:
- Listen well.
- When someone else is sharing, your only job is to receive it.
- Be spontaneous.
- Don't plan your answer while someone else is talking. Let it come when it's your turn.
- You can always pass.
- No one is required to share anything. (But try.)
- What's shared here, stays here.
NEXT
how it works:
Someone volunteers to go first. You'll move around the circle in order from there. Everyone responds to each prompt before the group moves to the next one. Take your time. There's no rush.
NEXT
Prompt 1:
We'll start simple. Share your current lock screen background and the story behind it.
NEXT
prompt 2 - A Little Deeper:
Share a time when you tried to be open or honest with someone and it wasn't received the way you'd hoped.
NEXT
prompt 3 - Turn it around:
Is there a time you didn't receive someone else's vulnerability well (and you knew it) whether in the moment or later on?
(This one takes more courage. It's okay if it's uncomfortable.)
NEXT
Prompt 4 - The Other side:
Has someone ever received something vulnerable from you in a way that surprised you...that was better than you expected? What did they do? Why was it good?
NEXT
Is there someone in your life right now who might be waiting for you to create this kind of safety for them?
You don't have to name them, but you might be able to explain why you think they might be waiting for you.

As Jesus was sending his disciples out into the villages and towns to explain to people who he was and that the kingdom of God had come, he gave them these words. They are words about how we receive one another. When we receive someone in their vulnerability and need, it is as if we are welcoming Jesus himself.
Matthew 10:40-42
40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
