Message from the Headmaster
Dear Parents, It has been good to discern a particularly positive attitude to learning within the College this week. Our public examination pupils have been approaching their tests with the seriousness they deserve and Y12 and Y10 have been reflecting on feedback provided on their internal examinations. I have written to a number of Y12 pupils following their exams to praise them for the approach to their studies, their obvious hard work, and their support in creating a positive academic environment. We are gearing up for Exhibition weekend and I look forward to seeing as many parents and wider family members as time allows. There is so much to see and look forward to! I wish all our musicians, sportsmen and sportswomen, dramatists, musicians and members of the CCF all the best for their parts. It seems unbecoming to highlight anything in particular with so much going on but I wanted to mention that we have Exhibition Mass for all pupils and families at 19.00 in the Abbey Church on Friday evening with Abbot Robert as celebrant. On Saturday morning we have Prize Giving in the St Alban's Centre at 10.30 with Mrs Martha Byrne Hill as our guest speaker. Best wishes, Jon
Heads of School
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Heads of School and Deputy Heads of School for the next academic year at Ampleforth College.
Congratulations to our new Heads of School, Alice (12M) and Nolan (12DO), and Deputy Heads of School Kiki (12B) and Felipe (12H). These students have already shown outstanding commitment, leadership and service within our community, and we look forward to seeing them help lead the College with confidence, integrity and compassion in the year ahead. RAF Waddington Trip
The RAF Section of the Combined Cadet Force recently enjoyed an exciting and informative Field Day visit to RAF Waddington. Hosted by serving RAF personnel, cadets toured the station and explored a range of engagement stands showcasing specialist equipment and aircraft. Highlights included visiting the home of the Red Arrows, as well as learning about the capabilities of the Protector Drone and the highly specialised Rivet Joint ISTAR platform. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for cadets to speak directly with RAF personnel, ask questions about careers and trades within the RAF, and gain a deeper understanding of the professionalism and expertise required in modern air operations. It was a memorable and inspiring experience for all involved.
The Final St Martin's Ampleforth Tea Party
At this year’s St Martin’s Ampleforth Tea Party, former pupils of St Martin’s gathered for a particularly special occasion. This year’s gathering marks the final year in which any students who attended St Martin’s remain at the College. To commemorate the occasion, a slideshow of photographs from St Martin’s days was displayed on the big screen in Main Hall, prompting plenty of smiles, memories and conversation among those gathered. Of course, no tea party would be complete without a generous selection of cake, scones, sandwiches and refreshments, which were enjoyed as students reminisced about their time together. The event was both a joyful celebration and a poignant farewell to an important chapter in the shared history of St Martin’s and Ampleforth College.
RAF Leeming - Aerial Experience Flight
Six RAF cadets recently took part in an Aerial Experience Flight (AEF) 5 at RAF Leeming, enjoying excellent flying conditions throughout the day. Each cadet had the opportunity to take to the skies in a Grob Tutor alongside an RAF pilot, giving them a valuable first-hand experience of powered flight and RAF flying operations. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which marked the final opportunity for powered flying this training year. The day was a memorable and rewarding experience for all involved, further strengthening the cadets’ enthusiasm for aviation and the RAF section of the Combined Cadet Force.
Message from Mrs Dent
As we head towards the final week of the half term, the big news has been the announcement on Monday of next year's school monitor team. We are delighted to tell you that the St Aidan's House student leadership monitor team for next academic year will be:Celia Scott - Head of House (pictured centre) Aggie Tucker and Coco Bannister - Deputy Heads of House Their appointment comes following a rigourous selection process and each has been selected on their indivudual strengths, whilst also keeping in mind how their unique attributes compliment each other to create a team that will work together with house staff to bring about maximum benefit to the house community. The girls have a strong act to follow in our outgoing house monitors who will perform their final duties at Exhibition- Clover, Gabrielle and Katie. We still have a few weeks to show our immense appreciation to them as they hand over to the new team and we start to plan for building on their good work next year. Congratulations also go to other St Aidan's appointments to the whole school monitor team: Penny de Montbel - Whole School Chaplaincy Monitor Betty Kennedy - Monitor for St Edward's and St Wilfrid's Lily Sadler - Monitor for St Esward's and St Wildfrid's Victoria Hamilton - Whole School Music Monitor We look forward to seeing many of you at Exhibition next weekend where we will share in the opportunity to celebrate the successes of the whole house over the past year.

St Martin's Ampleforth student tea
Past students of St Martin's Prep School - AKA 'The Castle' were deeply touched by the special afternoon tea put on for them by Mrs Moses this week. Students in our Year 13 cohort are the last to have attended the prep school, some of them from the age of 3, receiving their entire education at Ampleforth. Mrs Moses acted as Houseparent alongside her husband, Head of School Dr David Moses in the prep school's final years. Three of St Aidan's House - Stephanie, Gabrielle and Katie - are proud to be members of this exclusive club and greatly enjoyed the chance to catch up with fellow SMA students and staff for one last time. Great thanks go to Clare Moses for creating such a special trip down memory lane.
CCF Range Day
Last Sunday, Ellie and Mary attended a special CCF range day where they had the chance to develop their rifle skills. It's been a busy week for the CCF all round as the cadets prepare for the Exhibition parade and gun run next weekend.
Year 10 Stanbrook Abbey Retreat
On Wednesday 13th May we took a bus to Stanbrook Abbey. The first thing we did was go to Mass. The church was very modern and beautiful and it was really cool to see all of the nuns. Once we had finished Mass, Sister Julian took us into a room to introduce ourselves. After, we went to see the Paschal Candle, which she painted. We had a quick snack and a chat, then we looked at all her paintings. We chose one we were drawn to and explained why. Then we made a very yummy lunch. After lunch we got into groups and went on a walk with one nun each and asked lots of questions. Overall it was a really fun and interesting day.

Ascension Mass
In a change to the usual routine, it was wonderful to join with the girls and staff of St Bede's for a merged House Mass in the Abbey Crypt on Ascension Day. Thank you to our shared House Chaplain Fr Philip for arranging.
A reminder that if you'd like to keep up with the goings on of the House and girls, then do find us on social media. Please do also feel free to drop me line with news or pictures of interesting or note-worthy things the girls have been up to in the holidays. It's always nice to share their experience more widely on these pages to celebrate the many gifts and achievements of the girls.

Not a reference to golf, popular as it is in House, but a nod to the busy nature of the term currently. Daily A Level and GCSE examinations, upcoming house events (tennis and basketball), socials, sports matches and the small matter of lessons are all packing the days in the run up to half term, which will start after Exhibition in a week's time! This week we welcomed Fr Richard back into house to take our Ascension Mass, as always leaving the boys considering their faith but also the world around them more deeply. I am pleased so many of you have managed to speak to Jonathan via Teams and I will be sending a few more invitations for next week. I look forward to seeing you all next weekend!

Message from the Housemaster
A rather calm week is coming to an end. The boys in the exam years are keeping their heads down and are working hard. On Monday, we announced the new monitor positions for next year. Congratulations to Head Boy Nolan, Head of House Joshua and Deputy Head of House Oscar. They have some very big shoes to fill, and I cannot thank Benny, Ambrose and Jonty enough for all they have done for the house this year. Finally, our house chapel has been further improved by the purchase of an electric church organ and the installation of a blessed water stoop which three of our boys made during the House Retreat.

Food, glorious food
The boys seem to be on a health trip at the moment. In our house council. meeting, the boys asked for healthier options in the tuck shop (lentil crisps, Nakd protein bars, dried mango) and berries every morning for breakfast.Even Charles loves the changes.
Food, glorious food
Our Thursday afternoon offering: filled sandwiches with lots of lettuce, tomatoes and crudites with two types of hummus.

Looking back while looking ahead
This half of term – busy as it is with public and trial exams, with fixtures, trips and preparations for Exhibition – seems increasingly marked by a turn to the past while looking ahead to the future. On Tuesday, the Year 13s enjoyed their last Taco Tuesday together; we had earlier in the week welcomed the new Year 12 School Monitors to their roles. New positions of responsibility within the CCF are being considered and Year 9s and Year 11s are finalising their subject choices. As a House, we look forward to welcoming many of you to the Valley next week. It will be an opportunity to talk about the past year, to celebrate successes, evalute strengths and areas for development, and to consider what lies ahead. Looking back at the year so far, I am delighted by all that the boys have achieved so far.
CCF trips
A number of Hugh's boys have recently enjoyed trips through the CCF, with visits to RAF Leeming, RAF Waddington and the Year 9 Army Section cadets at MoD Leconfield.

SMA tea party
Thinking again about looking back while looking ahead, Mrs Moses organised a lovely tea party for the Year 13 students who had come through SMA.
Dear Parents This week at St Margaret’s House we have seen plenty of fun, although sadly not a lot of sun! Despite the grey weather, the house has remained busy, positive and full of energy.
Our girls have been working incredibly hard as exams continue, with Year 11 and 13s already sitting some of their papers and many others in the middle of exams. We are very proud of the determination and resilience being shown by all the girls during this busy period.
On Sunday, we enjoyed a fantastic lunch created by our talented Year 12s. A huge thank you to them for all their hard work and effort it was a wonderful occasion and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
This week also brought the exciting announcement of our new monitors. Congratulations to all the girls appointed to these important roles: Issy -Head of House, Mima and Emily- Deputy Heads of House, Ruby LB -Sports Monitor, Alice DM- Head Monitor. We know they will all do an excellent job and lead the house with enthusiasm and kindness! A special academic mention this week goes to Clare Wang and Ruby LB, who were two of only six students in the whole of Year 12 to receive a letter from the Headmaster congratulating them on their exceptional exam achievements, hard work and outstanding performance in the mock exams. This is a tremendous accomplishment very well done to both girls! Our Year 10 girls also enjoyed a wonderful trip to Stanbrook Abbey with Mrs Carter. The girls absolutely loved the day and it was lovely to see such strong friendships and time spent together outside of school.
As we head into the weekend, many girls are taking the opportunity to relax and recharge before the busy Exhibition Weekend ahead. We are very much looking forward to welcoming so many parents and families then.
Wishing everyone a restful weekend.
Warm regards, Rebecca

Housemasters message
This week in Junior House has been full of energy, teamwork, and fun.
With Saturday’s cricket fixtures cancelled due to the weather, students made the most of the afternoon with dodgeball in SAC and cricket at house. The hockey and netball dinners on Saturday evening were also a great success and enjoyed by all. On Sunday, the students had a fantastic trip to Go Ape in Dalby Forest, where they loved tackling the obstacles and zip lines together. It was wonderful to see so much encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the day. Thursday brought away cricket fixtures at Aysgarth. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the students showed excellent determination and community spirit, supporting and encouraging one another throughout the matches. As we look ahead to the weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities for students to socialise, play games together, and prepare for the final week of the half term.

It was lovely to welcome Richard back into our fold after many weeks of convalescence at home due to his rugby injury.
The end of an era
On Tuesday, the last cohort of boys and girls who attended SMA before joining SHAC gathered for tea in Main Hall. Representing DO's was Teddy.

On Tuesday, future Head Boy Nolan spoke during Assembly.
Nice to see you, to see you ...
Mrs Rogerson joined the house for lunch on Monday and found a fellow invalid in Richard..
Friendships
It is always nice to see the boys being friends across the year groups. Here, we have Arthus (12), Paddy (11) and Freddie (10) sharing a moment on Minnie's sofa.
Take me to the water
We are overjoyed to have the holy water stoop securely attached to the chapel wall. This was part of our retreat project back in October. Thank you to Ambrose, Josh and Juan who created this beauty.
Take me to the water
Juan can be proud of being part of the project.
Last but not least
