Quella continentale si divide a sua volta in acque accumulate nei ghiacciai, acque sotteranee e acque superficiali, come laghi ,fiumi e atmosfera(0,001%). l'idrosfera è fondamenale perchè l' acqua è alla base della vita, e in più, funge da fattore di regolazione del sistema terra in grado di ridistribuire il calore ed inflenzare i climi

Le caratteristiche chimico-fisiche

Salinità: È la quantità totale di sali disciolti in 1 kg di acqua marina. Si esprime in parti per mille (35\permille) Il sale più abbondante è il cloruro di sodio (circa il 77%) seguito da solfati, magnesio e calcio. Più alta dell'acqua dolce a causa dei sali.Composizione dei gas: Nell'acqua sono sciolti i gas atmosferici, fondamentali per la vita marina. I più importanti sono l'ossigeno (concentrato negli strati superficiali grazie all'interazione con l'atmosfera e alla fotosintesi) e l'anidride carbonica. Temperatura: Varia sia in base alla latitudine (più calda all'equatore, più fredda ai poli) sia con la profondità. Negli strati più profondi (oltre i 1000 metri) la temperatura si aggira costantemente tra gli 1 e 4 gradi celsius. Densità: Misura la massa per unità di volume. Nell'idrosfera marina essa aumenta all'aumentare della salinità e della pressione e diminuisce con l'aumentare della temperatura. Variazioni di densità generano le correnti oceaniche profonde. Pressione: Aumenta di 1 atm ogni 10 metri di discesa. Trasparenza e luce: La luce penetra nell'acqua fino a un massimo di circa 200 metri di profondità (zona fotica), oltre la quale l'oceano è completamente buio. La trasparenza dipende dalla presenza di particelle in sospensione. Punto di congelamento: L'elevata concentrazione salina abbassa il punto di congelamento dell'acqua a -1,9 gradi celsius.

Le onde

Elementi: Si compongono di una cresta (la parte più alta), un cavo (la parte più bassa) e un'altezza (la distanza tra cresta e cavo).Tsunami: Sono onde anomale isolate, non causate dal vento ma da terremoti sottomarini o eruzioni vulcaniche.

Sono movimenti irregolari e superficiali causati principalmente dal vento che soffia sulla superficie del mare.Meccanismo: L'acqua non si sposta in avanti, ma compie un movimento oscillatorio (circolare). Solo vicino alla costa l'onda si frantuma e si trasforma in un movimento di trasporto (maroso).

Le maree

Sono oscillazioni periodiche e prevedibili del livello del mare, causate dall'attrazione gravitazionale della Luna e del Sole.Ciclo: Si ripetono circa ogni 6 ore. Si dicono di "alta marea" quando il livello sale e di "bassa marea" quando scende. Maree vive e morte: Quando Terra, Luna e Sole sono allineati, le forze si sommano e si hanno le maree massime (sigiziali). Quando sono a 90 gradi, le forze si contrastano e le maree sono minime (quadratura). Ampiezza: Varia molto in base alla conformazione delle coste; nei mari chiusi (come il Mediterraneo) è di pochi centimetri, mentre in alcune baie oceaniche può superare i 15 metri.

Le correnti marine

Sono veri e propri fiumi d'acqua che si muovono costantemente all'interno degli oceani, spostando enormi masse idriche a grandi distanze.Correnti superficiali: Generate dai venti costanti (come gli Alisei) e deviate dalla rotazione terrestre (effetto Coriolis). Si dividono in calde (dall'equatore ai poli) e fredde (dai poli all'equatore).Correnti profonde: Generate dalle differenze di densità dell'acqua, a loro volta causate da variazioni di temperatura e salinità (circolazione termoalina).Ruolo climatico: Funzionano come un sistema di riscaldamento globale. Ad esempio, la Corrente del Golfo trasporta calore dall'equatore verso l'Europa del Nord, rendendone il clima molto più mite.
