Scheduled Missions
Through the Artemis program, NASA plans to return humans to the moon and establish a moon base at the lunar south pole. All crews will be announced closer to their respective launch dates.
NASA Artemis program timeline
From 2022 to 2028, there will be five scheduled missions. Following 2028, missions will be scheduled once a year.
Artemis IV
Scheduled for early 2028, Artemis IV will return humans to the surface of the moon. The Artemis IV crew will explore the lunar south pole, collecting data to expand human understanding of the solar system and the moon.
Artemis V
Scheduled for late 2028, Artemis V plans to return two astronauts to the lunar south pole. Following this mission, NASA plans to have yearly missions and establish a moon base in the 2030s.
Artemis III
Scheduled for 2027, Artemis III will be an integrated operation between NASA, SpaceX, and Blue Origin. The mission will use the Orion spacecraft with one or both of the commercial landers to test their rendezvous and docking capabilities. The Artemis III crew will be announced closer to the launch date.
Artemis I
Artemis I was the first mission of the Artemis program, which aims to establish a long-term human presence on the moon with a moon base following Artemis V. The mission lasted 25 days and was an uncrewed lunar flight test from Nov. 16, 2022, to Dec. 11, 2022.
Artemis II
Artemis II was the first crewed flight in the Artemis program. The mission lasted 10 days and was a lunar flyby. The crew, consisting of astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen, left Earth on April 1, 2026, and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on April 10, 2026.
