Welcome to

edouard queau comprehensive school

Portsall - France

Our school

Edouard Quéau Comprehensive School is a secondary public school located in the small town of Portsall, in the north-west of Finistère, France. It is part of the town of Ploudalmézeau, and it is about 20 kilometers from Brest, and 615 kilometers from Paris. We are very happy and proud to learn that Ploudalmézeau has been twinned with Porthcawl, because there must be some similarities between our two schools...

Located in a unique and beautiful site, Edouard Quéau School is overlooking the sea, and especially the port of Portsall. Therefore, in our school, a lot of extra-curriculum activities naturally include surfing, coastal rescue, and marine studies.

School Information

Edouard Quéau is a small school, with 420 students, and 34 teachers. There are 16 classes, from year 7 to year 10, with students aged 11 to 14. It is quite a big family! Our students can develop in a challenging but caring environment.

Our cultural specificity

We are part of Brittany, where the language traditionally spoken is Breton, which is still spoken in some families. Breton is a Celtic language, very close to Welsh. Breton identity is quite strong here, and it is visible through music, costumes and festivals. That is why our road signs are also written in Breton!

A great part given to languages, art and sport

Along with the general subjects, foreign languages are essential to us : English, spoken by all the students, but also Spanish, German, and Latin. In Year 9 and Year 10, 48 voluntary students join the European Section each year, offering them different ways of learning English (drama in English for example). Activities including orchestra, choir, drama in French and sports are among our students' favourites.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!
