Expanded Character Spacing in Microsoft Word
Character Spacing lets you increase the spacing between letters. Click the Next button to see step-by-step instructions for using the expanded font feature.
Part 1: Create a new document and enter the text
- Create a new document in Microsoft Word.
- Enter the sample text ON COLLECTING.
- Select the heading and format it as Garamond, 18pt.
- Center the text.

Part 2: Go to Advanced Font Settings
- Select the text.
- In the Home ribbon, go to Font options by clicking the arrow inthe bottom right corner.
- In the Font dialog, click the Advanced tab.
Part 3: Format the text as Expanded
- In the Character Spacing section, set the Spacing option to Expanded.
- In the By box, enter 6.
- Click OK to close the Font options dialog box.
- That's it - you are done. Be sure to save your document!
