Expanded Character Spacing in Microsoft Word

Character Spacing lets you increase the spacing between letters. Click the Next button to see step-by-step instructions for using the expanded font feature.

Part 1: Create a new document and enter the text

  1. Create a new document in Microsoft Word.
  2. Enter the sample text ON COLLECTING.
  3. Select the heading and format it as Garamond, 18pt.
  4. Center the text.

Part 2: Go to Advanced Font Settings

  1. Select the text.
  2. In the Home ribbon, go to Font options by clicking the arrow inthe bottom right corner.
  3. In the Font dialog, click the Advanced tab.

Part 3: Format the text as Expanded

  1. In the Character Spacing section, set the Spacing option to Expanded.
  2. In the By box, enter 6.
  3. Click OK to close the Font options dialog box.
  4. That's it - you are done. Be sure to save your document!
