Before judging "The Devil Wears Prada 2," it is worth remembering why the original worked: its sharp dialogue, icy humor and unforgettable character dynamics. "The Devil Wears Prada" is a 2006 dramedy starring Anne Hathaway as Andrea (Andy) Sachs, Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling. The story follows Sachs in a post-graduation journalism job working for Priestly, an intimidating and impeccably stylish boss. Kipling works as an employed assistant for Priestly but also as a kind of emotional assistant for Sachs, as he guides her into how to survive working in such a hostile and competitive environment.

- Miranda Priestly
This iconic quote by Miranda Priestly highlights her character's stern but witty manner. Priestly is known far and wide for being intimidating, but a huge part of that fear factor is her level of sarcasm and her deliberate choice to make her subordinates feel inferior to maintain her status at the top of the pyramid. This shutdown of an employee’s pitch leaves Sachs stunned, as this was really her first impression of how priestly treats her employees as a whole, not just individually.
At this point in the movie, Priestly has informed Sachs of her ongoing divorce. However, in dealing with her personal life, she does not lose her "all-business" attitude. This statement is made at Priestly's own hotel room during Paris Fashion Week.

"Gird Your loins!" - Nigel Kipling
Kipling's dry humor gives the film some of its sharpest comic relief, especially as he prepares the staff for Priestly’s entrance. In "The Devil Wears Prada," Kipling acts both as an assistant to Priestly but also a mentor to Sachs. He helps her get used to the bustling environment of the fashion magazine, as well as to Priestly's never-ending list of asks and tasks.

"That's All."
Priestly's final word. Her method of dismissal — permanently, temporarily...? It's hard to tell.
This quote is brief, but it makes an impact — especially when you hear "And Emily?..." followed by a judgmental look towards a pair of shoes before it. At first, these two words are just a way for Priestly to dehumanize her employees — that is, until Sachs is successfully able to get two copies of the new Harry Potter book for the twins and an extra one "just in case." At that point, if you look closely enough, you might be able to see the corner of Priestly's mouth curl up into a… smile? Priestly's use of this phrase in that scene turns out to be less of a rude farewell and more of an expression of shock and admiration, thus starting off the growth of their characters' relationship.
The cerulean Speech
"But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue. It's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean."- Miranda Priestly
After a slip-up on Sachs' part where she laughs at the apparent major difference between two very similar belts, this monologue really demonstrates just how knowledgeable but intimidating Priestly is. In spite of her apparent lack of care for her employees, her children and even herself, she is clearly devoted to her work. This quote is a perfect highlight of both her passion and workaholism.
Finally, the ultimate quote showcasing the ultimate level of impatience arrives. This, being one of the first things out of Priestly's mouth that both the audience and the newcomer Sachs hears, practically sums up her character in five words. She clearly does not have the time nor the desire to put up with anything even near incompetence; in fact, she barely has the time to decide between two belts that are apparently "so similar."
"Why is no one ready?"
- Miranda Priesty

When all is said and done, bid goodbye to this chapter of "The Devil Wears Prada" in favor of new iconic quotes from the sequel — whether or not they do justice to these...well, that's a matter to discuss over popcorn and an ICEE. ...That's all.
