1907
Constructed in 1907 to accommodate railroad freight storage, Ironside Newark was originally known as the Newark Warehouse Company Building. The building was a six-story renaissance revival used by the Central Railroad of New Jersey and located on what was then known as Mechanic Street.Considered an operational marvel at the time, freight shipments were managed by a central telephone office in the warehouse, with train deliveries entering through the second floor to support the city’s elevated track network.

In 1980, the Newark Warehouse Company Building was renamed the Central Graphic Arts Building, the anchor tenant of which was Central Paper Company.In more recent years, the building was used for additional commercial business.

In 2014, the building was purchased by Edison Properties, a real estate leader headquartered in Newark since 1956.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka attended a “wall-breaking” ceremony kicking off construction of Ironside Newark, calling the Edison Properties’ development, “a transformative 21st century workplace that supports the city’s shift to a dynamic and walkable 24/7 community."

Edison Properties relocates its headquarters into the Ironside Newark building to become the first company to conduct operations there.
