As a young man, Andy made illustrations for magazine and newspaper advertisements. He liked the look of the shiny, colourful products that American businesses liked to sell. So he decided to include these “popular” images in his own paintings. One of his early works showed row upon row of Campbell’s soup cans. This humorous picture helped begin an artistic movement called “Pop Art.”
