The Farmyard
by A.A. Attwood
One black horse standing by the gate,
Two plump cats eating from a plate;
Three big goats kicking up their heels,
Four pink pigs full of grunts and squeals;
Five white cows coming slowly home,
Six small chicks starting off to roam;
Seven fine doves perched upon the shed,
Eight grey geese eager to be fed;
Nine young lambs full of frisky fun,
Ten brown bees buzzing in the sun.

Hog in a Wood
by Adrian Mitchell
Big black hog in a wood
On a truffle hunt.
Head stuck deep in the earth –
Grunt, snort, grunt.
Oh a hog’s in heaven when his tongue
Is wrapped around a truffle.
His tail uncurls and his hog heart
Performs a soft-shoe shuffle.
Big black hog in a wood
Chewing muddy truffles.
Great snout nosing them out –
Sniff, snuff, snuffles.
