All about sleep:
Click on underlined for more information
We all know that sleep is important for optimal function during day-to-day life. Trying to get a good night of sleep, which most professionals say is at minimum eight hours, is no different during finals than any other day.
Studies show that students who sleep at least eight hours performed better on final exams than those who slept less than eight hours. Many students pull all nighters thinking they will do better because of their longer study time; however, this will backfire, as less sleep equates to less focus and degraded memory.

all about nutrition:
Lean proteins, complex carbs, healthy fats and fiber are shown to support brain and body health, which is highly needed during the stressful time of finals season, especially with regular hydration. These food groups prevent the dramatic fluctuations in blood glucose levels, which decreases the massive spikes of energy and even larger crashes caused by high-sugar foods, allowing you to focus and stay alert for tests.
Examples of affordable, balanced and stabilizing meals include oatmeal with berries and yogurt, chicken with veggies and potatoes, and egg or tuna salad on whole-grain bread.

Study methods:
Pomodoro technique: Set a timer for 25 minutes and get to work without distractions. When the timer goes off, make a note that you completed one time segment and take a five-minute break not on electronics (e.g. stretching, drinking water, etc.). Complete another four segments before taking a longer 25 to 30 minute break.
This technique has shown to increase focus and productivity during studying.
The Rule of Three: This technique prioritizes interacting with the material you are studying three times through reading, writing and reciting for the purpose of being memorable and easier to process. People tend to find things in groups of three more gratifying and effective, thus sticking to the brain. (e.g. "The Three Little Pigs").

Time management & Planning:
Time management and planning is not about compliling large, inflexible schedules of everything you need to do for the day or week, which can actually have an adverse effect on your ability to get things done reasonably due to it being a stressor for many people. Instead, try to break down large tasks into smaller ones, set a manageable list of priorities and allot time for things you enjoy doing as a reward for your completed tasks. This prevents burnout, boosts your focus and maintains motivation.

Procrastination:
According to a study by Princeton University, students tend to procrastinate due to anxiety about performing poorly, leading them to avoid tasks that cause grade pressure. While we won't dive deep into this particular topic and the reasons for delaying work, I will share some tips on how to minimize procrastination during finals season.
1) Try time management techniques that were listed previously, or search for one that works for you and minimizes stress.
2) Stay motivated through productive reasons, meaning to find reasons to learn and achieve in a way that pushes you in a positive manner. 3) Finally, stay active and engaged in your classes. Confusion causes boredom, so to combat that, seek out what content in the course is relevent and interesting to you, and aim to understand the course.

The prefect environment:
The most effective study environment is different from person to person, so it's a matter of personal preference. However, a few broad starting points include... 1) Choose a comfortable location, whether your bedroom desk, kitchen table or library with a small study group. Just make sure it is relaxing with minimal interruptions. 2) If you are able to, play some background music or noise to help you focus, but make sure it is not your favorite upbeat song. Most recommend lofi, classical music or nature sounds. 3) Staying organized is another helpful tip. The overall goal is to make it easy to find what your materials without wasting study time. 4) Tying back to the importance of sleep when studying, blue light from electronic screens disrupts your sleep patterns, so make sure your space has natural light or invest in a small desk lamp
