Anthropogenic Impact In Jakarta , Indonesia
By Yuri De Jesus
Jakarta is a large city with a everygrowing population. Unfortunaley this comes with a number if issues. There are serious issues with pollution and water scarity. Furthermore, a large portion of the city is below sea level.
A estimates 40% of the city resides below sea level. This cause rapid flooding, over the years that is becoming more commmon as the sea level rises. Furthermore, the city has poor inffrastaue and ground water managment. Thus eroding the bedrock and causing the city to sink.
City officials are making attempts to mitigate the impact. One of the ideas is incentivizing people to move by building a new captal Nusantara. In hopes of decreasing the unsustainable population size currently in Jakarta. Nusantara will be built with a climate-friendly city design. This will potentially mitigate the current carbon footprint in Jakarta.
Lagos, Nigeria is experinceing a simialar situation to Jakarta. Lagos has a a very dense population, a lack of fincialy reaosurecs. There are issues with pollution and rising sea levels. The infrattructure issues within the city create a issue midigating the impacts. This has a number of negative effcts of surrounding regions. Annualy people are displaced from the flooding and their is increase difficalut distributing resouces.
These issues happening globally is a sign the there is rise for concern for everyone. Pollution and lack a drinking water will have a effect of people even if they reside above sea level. Its very important that we figure out ways to combat these issues.
