Reading Comprehension

Read the text below aloud.

In many of his plots, young heroes face off against villainous adults. For example, in the book Matilda, Matilda is a genius child who is and bullied by her terrible headmistress. In the book The Witches, the Grand High Witch plans to rid the entire country of children and must be stopped. These are only a few examples of how Dahl writes of young protagonists facing off against evil adults. While Roald Dahl is very famous and renowned, there is controversy surrounding his works. According to critics, Dahl's works include harmful racist and stereotypes.

Reading Comprehension

Read the text below aloud.

He is also criticized for exposing children to that are part of the plots in his books. Whether you think that Dahl's works are genius or flawed, it is that he has influenced the minds of young readers and popular culture as a whole. At least 19 of his books have been made into movies with famous actors, such as Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway, playing lead roles. It remains to be seen whether Roald Dahl's books will always be considered appropriate for children, but for now, his works remain very much alive and well-read.
