ISIS Kidnapping

• She was kidnapped, raped and beaten

GULF WAR

Iraq’s instability peaked with the Gulf War. After the Iran–Iraq War, the country faced a deep economic crisis, leading Saddam Hussein to invade Kuwait in 1990. A U.S-led coalition defeated Iraq in 1991, causing isolation and weakening the state. The 2003 U.S. invasion further destabilized the country, allowing ISIS to emerge and expand.
