Introduction to Genially
What is it? Genially is an all-in-one online tool used to create interactive and animated content. It’s more than just a slideshow maker; it’s designed to make "interactive experiences." Key Features: Interactivity: You can add "hotspots" that reveal text, images, or videos when clicked or hovered over. Animation: Almost every element can be set to move, fade, or bounce without needing complex video editing skills. Versatility: Use it for presentations, infographics, gamification (like digital escape rooms), and interactive maps.
How to Use Genially (The Basics)
1.) Pick a Template: Start with a "Genial" template (Presentation, Infographic, or Gamification). 2.) The Editor: Use the left-hand sidebar to add text, images, and "Interactive Elements" (buttons and markers). 3.)Adding Interactivity: Click on any object and select the Hand Icon. You can choose: Tooltip: Small text on hover. Window: Large content box on click. Go to page: Connects slides like a website. 4.) Adding Animation: Click the Meteor Icon to make objects enter, exit, or loop. 5.)Share: Hit "All set!" to publish and get a link to share with the class.
Why Use Genially?
Engagement: Instead of a passive audience, your viewers have to click and explore. No Coding: You get professional-looking animations without knowing how to code. Cloud-Based: Works in any browser; no need to download bulky software.
Class Activity: The "Interactive Fact" Challenge
Time: 5–10 minutes 1.) Go to Genially and create a free account (or use a guest "Try it now" if available). 2.) Select "Blank Creation" or a simple "Basic Presentation" template. 3.)Task: Create one slide about your favorite hobby or a fun fact. The Requirement: You must include: One Interactive Button: When clicked, it must open a "Window" with a description. One Animated Image: Make an image "Fade in" or "Continuous pulse." 4.) Turn In: Once finished, click "All set" and paste your link into the google classroom.
