This project was created in April 2026 as an Articulate E-Learning Weekly Challenge: How Would You Redesign This 1912 Exam for E-Learning? #549 The challenge was to turn a 1912 eighth-grade exam from Bullitt County (KY) Schools into a modern learning experience. Design platform: Genially (base subscription) Notes & Considerations:
- In the original iteration, in 1912, it is believed that the exam was presented to students in a scroll form on which they would write their answers.
- Questions were long or short form answer only: No multiple choice. No instant feedback. No second tries. Just handwritten answers and one shot at passing.
- In my recreated version, I maintained the no instant feedback model, as this is meant to be an exam for which they have studied well and answers may show up again in other questions.
- What I would like to have done, but was unable with the version of Genially I used, would be to allow students to go back to previous questions and edit responses before final submission of the exam. This would allow it to better mimic the flexibilty a student would have with a paper-and-pencil form exam.
- I incorporated various question models that encourage true information retention beyond simple memorization, such as single-choice, sort order, application and referential phrasing and interactive click-and-drag.
- The purpose of this project is to illustrate how modifying content for a virtual platform requires thoughtfulness and understanding of the purpose and learner persona, the entire exam is not recreated in this demonstration.
