Haram and Halal food

Food storage: As anywhere else, food storage in Baghdad was important. Travelers, armies, and traders couldn't always afford to carry livestock with them. Grains were stored in silos or garnaries to prevent pests. Fruits and vegetables were stored typically underground in airtight containers. Meats and melons were typically stored in containers with ice.

Diet: The typical diet around this time consisted of a lot of grain. Grain such as wheat, barley and rice. Meats consumed were normally beef, poultry, fish, and mutton. Fun fact!

Out of all meats, mutton was most popular. Even Prophet Muhammad himself said he favored the shoulder of a freshly slaughtered sheep!

Haram and Halal food part two

Special Occasions: During the Golden Age, Baghdad celebrated special occasions with complex dishes. This usally features spiced meats, fruits, nuts, and intricate sweets. A staple meal for these occassions were stews. A famous stew called, "Sikbaaj" which contained vinegar-based meat served with bread and fruit.

Arabesque style

The Eternal Spiral: Behind most intricate designs, behold a spiral. This has no hard corners and the curves are gentle. As it advances on and on, more miniture spirals form. At this time the art style used was very impressive and unique to other cultures. Symmetry and Structure: Once a section of spirals are created, they are typically replicated. Arabesque style was known for their use of symmetry. This almost creates a hypnotizing piece of art.

Arabesque style part two

Symbolism:One of the most impressive aspects to Arabesque style is the use of geomatry. Repeating patterns, designs, and shapes can extend infinately into all directions. This style serves as a metaphor for eternity and boundless nature of God.
