Learn about the taxes the colonists payed and how it lead to their rebellion.

Learn about the taxes that effected the colonist everyday lives and how they were taxed on simple things.

Tea Act (1773)

The Tea Act of 1773 restricted Tea this Tax lead to the boston tea party where colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians and started to dumped the tea in the ocean as a protest. 342 chests were poured. What it restriced:

Townshend Acts (1767)

The Townshend Acts of (1767) restricted things such as paint and glass. It effected the colonists every day lives by delaying things that might require that maintenance. The British governement is still attempting to repay their massive debts. What it restricted:

  • Paint
  • Glass
  • Lead
  • Tea
  • Paper

Stamp Act (1765)

The Stamp Act Taxed all paper goods and the colonists became outraged because the British government passed a tax without their consent, "No Taxation Without Representation." This special seal shown on the left is the only way they could access the paper goods

The Sugar Act (1764)

The British passed a tax restricting sugar, this effected the colonists everyday lives. These Taxes were passed to pay massive debts to the british army. The full cost was a penny more for each gallon. What it restricted:
