How to access ?

After you've found your source, you can use the Call # to locate it at the library, but due to ongoing renovations, here's what you can do instead:

Option 1. You can demonstrate this information to those working at the circulation desk at Lamar Library, and they will retrieve the item. Make sure to show the call number; one cannot retrieve a book without it.
Option 2. If you are unable to go to the circulation desk, log in to your library account and place the book on hold. If the book is available, it should be at the circulation desk for 48 hours for retrieval. For more information about placing a hold, click the button for Circulation in the Library Catalog.

What is a Call Number ?

A system of classification that is a combination of letters and numbers to indicicate where an item can be found in the library.

Fines for overdue books begin after a three-day grace period. After the grace period, fines are $0.25 per day, per item. The maximum fine for each book or item is $50.

Charges will be incurred by all borrowers for lost or damaged materials in accordance with the existing Mary and John Gray Library policy. The borrower will be charged the actual replacement price if the book is still in print (or a default price if it is no longer in print) plus a $20.00 processing fee.

Always make sure to handle the books or items with care

Back

Placing a Hold

If a book is listed as "No copies currently available" and has an estimated wait period indicated, another library patron has checked out the book. You may place a hold on checked out items by selecting "Full Details --> Hold." Make sure to be logged in to your library account.
After you place a hold on an item, the patron who has the item may keep it until it is due, but they cannot renew the item. This time period is indicated by the estimated wait period. If others have placed holds on the item before you, their potential checkout periods are also calculated in the estimated wait period. When the item is returned to the library and your hold request is next, you will be notified via email to retrieve the item from the stacks. You will have 48 hours to retrieve the item from the stacks. After that time, the hold will be removed.

Renewals

Interlibrary Loans (ILL)

Due dates are set by the lending libraries. Renewals might be available at the lending library’s discretion. If you need a renewal, then you must request it through your ILL account prior to the due date. You are only allowed one renewal per item. If the renewal is denied, then you must return the book to the library as soon as possible if the book has reached its due date.

How long can ILL materials be kept?

  • Articles and other photocopies are delivered electronically through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service electronic delivery and will be available online for 30 days or 5 times accessing the article. If you need the article for a longer period of time, you will need to either print your own copy or download the article to a flash/thumb drive. We will not be able to repeatedly request the same article through ILL.
  • Books and other loaned materials may be checked out at the Circulation desk on the 1st floor of the library for as long as the lending library allows. The due date will be indicated on a slip on the book cover when you check it out. A valid Lamar ID is required.
  • Some materials may be restricted to in-library use only.

What happens if the request is unfulfilled?

Book Shipping

Unfortunately, some materials may be unavailable through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service will notify you by email if a request is unfilled. A request may be unfilled for several reasons, including:
ILL books can be shipped to students, staff and faculty who do not live or work on campus. This service is only available to remote students and employees. Please note: you must allow an additional 7-10 days for books to arrive that are being shipped.
  • Libraries cannot loan material that their own patrons currently have checked out.
  • Libraries often do not loan recently published materials in order to keep those materials available for their own patrons.
  • Libraries often do not loan materials that are rare, valuable or irreplaceable.
  • Libraries often do not loan materials that are particularly fragile, prone to damage, or require special handling and/or storage conditions.
