Deserto Polar
Neste deserto de gelo, a vida revela resistência e paciência, com o sol a demorar meses para se pôr e as criaturas dominando a arte de esperar.
Urso Polar
Os ursos são cobertos por uma camada densa e isolante de pelos. Os pelos não são brancos, são livres de pigmento, ou seja, transparentes. Possuem um núcleo oco que dispersa e reflete a luz, muito parecido com o que acontece com o gelo e a neve. Já a pele é preta e grossa, sob a qual existe uma camada de gordura que pode medir até 11,5 centímetros de espessura.
Urso Polar
O urso polar habita o círculo polar Ártico e áreas próximas, incluindo Canadá, EUA (Alasca), Groenlândia, Rússia e Noruega. Sua população mundial é estimada entre 20.000 e 25.000 indivíduos, distribuídos em 19 grupos em quatro regiões do Ártico. Como vivem ao longo de águas cobertas de gelo, seus territórios são limitados pela extensão do gelo marinho, e seu habitat está sempre em movimento e mudança.
Habitam fundos arenosos, lagunas, ambientes recifais e camas de grama marinha. Frequentemente são vistas em baías e estuários.
Urso Polar
Os ursos usam a caça de espera e seu olfato apurado para localizar focas e outros alimentos, como pequenos mamíferos, aves, ovos, peixes, raízes, musgos, líquens e carcaças de baleias. Podem caçar o ano todo em áreas com gelo contínuo, mas, quando o gelo derrete no verão, passam meses em terra, buscando outras fontes de alimento ou jejuando, sobrevivendo de reservas de gordura.
Urso Polar
Ursos polares são animais solitários na natureza, mas podem ser encontrados aos pares em zoológicos e aquários. As fêmeas começam a acasalar aos 4 ou 5 anos, enquanto os machos levam mais tempo. A gestação dura de 200 a 265 dias, geralmente resultando em dois filhotes que nascem com pouco mais de 500g e precisam da mãe para sobreviver. Os filhotes permanecem na toca com a mãe por cerca de 4 meses, período em que ela não se alimenta, e continuam a aprender com ela até cerca de dois anos de idade, aprendendo a caçar e se cuidar.
