Layered Secrets
A Sedimentary Rocks Adventure
Location: A canyon of layered cliffs, riverbeds, and buried sediment zones
Start
You arrive at a massive canyon filled with towering rock walls made of stacked layers. Each layer tells a story of how the land has changed over time. A message from Ari Raider comes through: Adventurer, the Professor has hidden a specimen within these layers. To recover it, you must understand how sedimentary rocks form and how they are built over time. Move carefully. Each layer holds clues, but only the right knowledge will lead you to the specimen.
Your mission is to outsmart the Professor and recover the missing specimen. To succeed, you must explore each area and correctly identify how sedimentary rocks form from layers of sediment. Discover, identify, and collect them all.
Mission Knowledge (Facts) Sedimentary rocks form from layers of sediment Sediments are small pieces of rock, sand, and material Over time, layers are pressed together and hardened Many sedimentary rocks show visible layers Examples include sandstone and limestone
You step into a dry riverbed filled with sand, pebbles, and small pieces of rock. These materials have been carried here by water over time. A container is partially buried beneath the sediment. A series of challenges appears. To move forward, you must understand what sediments are and how they form.
The ground shifts as the container unlocks. A specimen is revealed beneath the sediment. You’ve uncovered the first clue hidden within the layers.
You approach a tall cliff made of clearly visible layers stacked on top of each other. Each layer represents a different time in Earth’s history. A second container is hidden within the rock wall. A new set of challenges appears. You must understand how these layers formed over time.
A section of the cliff shifts open. The container unlocks, revealing another specimen. You are getting closer to the final layer.
You enter a hidden chamber deep within the rock layers. Embedded in the stone are shapes and patterns left behind long ago. At the center, a final container waits. A series of final challenges appears. To complete your mission, you must apply everything you’ve learned about sedimentary rocks.
One by one, the locks release. The container begins to open. Inside, something starts to come into view. You’ve done it. The specimen has been recovered. Stand by, adventurer. Identification in progress.
GREAT JOB, ADVENTURER You’ve recovered Sandstone! Continue your mission to discover, identify, and collect them all by completing more adventures. The rarest specimens are hidden in real digs, waiting for true adventurers to find them at ExcavatingAdventures.com.
