Military Tasks

What are the tasks that go along with a military student?

Military students have some different tasks that go along with their files. Locate the military task guide on The Hub.

Task Guide

FA Completes

VA Checks

VA Check: when a student has applied for, is eligible for, or may be using military education benefits.VA Check - SP: when a student does not have military benefits, but they qualify for Active Duty or Veteran Pricing based solely on their military affiliation.

There are two types of VA Checks:

There are two FA Completes:

    • Both are tasks have the subject of "FA - Complete VA"
    • The difference is who it is assigned to
      • One is submitted to your Associate Manager (for students who are not getting ANY Title IV funding)
      • The other is submitted to QA at "FC - Military Review, FC Military Review" (students who get special pricing or are using some Title IV)

Special Pricing

What is special pricing and who qualifies for it?

Special Pricing (SP) is a military tuition discount UMA offers to eligible service members, veterans, and in some cases their spouses. SP is not a military education benefit and does not use any Chapter, TA, or MyCAA funding. SP only adjusts the tuition rate - it does not replace financial aid or count as a payment source.

How to explain to student?

Who Qualifies?

What documentation is needed?

In order to be eligible for SP the student must upload the following documents:

    • Active Duty
      • LES
    • Veteran
      • DD214
    • Military Spouse
      • Spouse LES & Marriage Certificate
    • National Guard or Reservist
      • LES

Special Pricing is a military tuition discount UMA offers to eligible service members, veterans, and sometimes their spouses. It doesn’t use your military education benefits - it's simply a reduced tuition rate UMA provides based on your military status. You’ll still complete the normal financial aid process (FAFSA), but your tuition will be lower because of this pricing.

A student may receive SP if they meet one of these criteria:

    • Active Duty
    • Veteran
    • Military Spouse (only Active Duty Spouses)
    • National Guard or Reservist

Difference Between Civilian and Military

Understanding the difference between a civilian and a military student.

A military student is a UMA student with a military affiliation who is using or eligible for military education benefits. A civilian student is anyone without military affiliation or someone who is affiliated but not using military benefits.

Military

Civilian

A civilian student is any student who:

    • Has no military service connection

Key UMA characteristics:

    • They follow the standard financial aid process (FAFSA, Pell, loans, etc.).
    • No military documentation, benefit verification, or military-specific processes are required.
    • Their enrollment and advising follow the standard UMA student workflow.

A military student is any student who:

    • Is connected to the U.S. Armed Forces in an eligible way

Key UMA characteristics:

    • Their enrollment or financial aid may involve military-affiliated funding sources such as TA, MyCAA, or VA benefits.
    • UMA must follow military-specific policies, communication standards, and documentation requirements.
